I just picked up a Colt LE6920 at Wal-Mart and since I am not too familiar with ARs in general I needed some help.

I am wanting to put a light up front and since there is plenty of room in front of the sight could I get a short rail that fits up there? Is there a specific name for rails that go in front of the sight?

How about this from Elzetta. It mounts to the FSB. I keep meaning to pick one up.

IWC designed the new TMC (Top Mount Cantilevered) 1" Light MOUNT-N-SLOT's with AMBI mounting capability.

Congrats on your new Colt LE6920, unfortunately my Wal-Mart don't have any Colt only Sig M400.

With just using your original M4 handguard you could mount a light on the top vent holes and could mount your light either at the left or right side of the front sight, take a look at Impact Weapons Components (IWC) mount either directly mounting a light or they also have a short rail mount.

You could also mount a small rail on the sides of the front sight and then mount your light there.

The next better way to mount a light without the expense of a rail system is by getting a Magpul MOE handguards, you could mount small rails as you need on it either Magpul modular rails or from IWC.

The Wal-Mart employee who sold me the gun was in his 60s and seemed quite knowledgeable about rifles. He said that his managers had told him that Wal-Mart would soon be carrying an AR type rifle in .308.
