All of my EDC and weaponlights have been LED for several years now. However, I have a half dozen G2s and a couple 9Ps stashed all over the place. In camping gear, in the cars, and in various places throughout the house. These lights don't see much use but I'd like to convert them to LED for reliability and increased battery life.
I'd like something about like the P60L but not as pricey since I'm buying several to go in rarely used lights. I don't want the latest 500 lumen hand held Bat Signal. I'd much prefer something in the 80-120 lumen range with longer run time. Any suggestions? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| Kevin @ Brightflashlights.com has some Lumens Factory drop-ins that are in my opinion a very good replacement for the price. I have one in a 6P and the other in a G2 that stay in my car and in my backpack. Email or call him for details but im thinking they were around $30 a piece. |

What is your price range? You can get R2 Cree drop ins from ebay and deal extreme for around $9 each these days.
The TNVC, Malkoff, and Lumens factory drop ins are great, but not if you're trying to replace 8 different drop ins at once (again, depending on your price range). |

i put these in all my Surefires. never had a problem with them. have suggested them to several friends. of all, only 1 has had issues with his. dunno why.
just rip the larger outer spring off before installing. DX |
| Better places to get the knockoffs than DealExtreme. I ordered 5 items on 3/01/2012. Still waiting on 2 of them. All items were listed as "in stock" when I ordered. The drop-in was shipped in a padded manilla envelope with nothing else for protection. It didn't work and I was told I would receive a free replacement. Still haven't seen anything. Cheap isn't so cheap if you only get half the shit you paid for. |

Three brightness settings, Cree R5 LED - 15 bucks.
ETA: Don't settle for a single-brightness LED upgrade. There are so many occasions when full brightness is simply too bright to be usable (particularly since modern LEDs are much brighter than the incandescent bulbs they replace). One or two dimmer settings add a lot of versatility to the flashlight, and also greatly increase battery life. |
| I've seen the 3 and 5 brightness setting drop-ins. Will they work in a regular G2 with standard on-off switch? I purchased a couple of the Q5 Cree knockoffs on ebay a couple years ago and had them in a few days. No more ordering it from Hong Kong. I realize that is where they originate but I would rather buy them from someone in Texas. |

Look at the voltage range. If using two CR123 batteries, that dropin will fry. One 17670 rechargeable lithium ion battery will work. |

The 5-mode high-voltage version is 17 bucks - works up to 8.4 volts, so a pair or CR123's (or even a pair of rechargeable RCR123's) should work just fine. |
