Why does no one offer an IR laser/ IR illuminator combo?

Is the class 1 illuminators just not that effective? I would love to retire my PEQ-2A for a class 1 laser, but an illuminator is a must have for me on a IR laser

I believe the class 1 laser illuminators aren't strong enough.  The LED IR lights are too big.  So for now, we are stuck with laser only units.  Perhaps somebody (like Insight) will come out with a LAM-1000 style light with a dual IR/visible light led like the Surefire Vampire line.

While not as nice as a dedicated unit, I run a Dbal class 1 and a Surefire 952V.  I have the dual pressure cord and am very happy with it.  I got both visible & ir light/laser options.  The Surefire 952V is nowhere near as bright as your PEQ, but works well enough out to 150 yards or so.

Illuminators on PEQs are diffused lasers. To get a laser powerful enough to work as an illuminator it would have to be a class 3 IR, hence no IR illuminator.

An illuminator is definitely a must have. Have you looked into the vampire lights? I understand this combo is a match made in heaven. I have a DBAL^I2 and an m600v. I would love to give it a try, but I was 2/3rds of the way to a PVS-14 and was laid off. So when I get a job and my money back I'll let you know

Since you need a light on your carbine anyways the vampire head is a great addition to a night rifle. I've seen pictures of a battalion overseas with PEQ-15s and M952vs, and pictures of cool guys with PEQ-15s or PEQ-15As and m620vs.

I gotcha that's what I figured.

Yea I've tried the vampire lights. Their good but my PEQ-2A still beats the snot out of it. I don't care for the laser on high setting as it washes everything out within 100 yards. However the illuminator is the cats meow on high when there is no ambient light or I need to cut through woods and light up a dark spot

Just tired of the raised eyebrows I get from people when they realize its a class 3 laser
