I see the KM3 and KM4 heads for the M95 and M96 series lights but would rather not spend 299 for a LED head.

Any one else have a durable LED head for a 9V M96 series light?

If you have an M95 any of the P60 drop ins will work fine.  The M96 is a different animal because it uses a tower instead of a drop in. Steve Ku (Veleno Designs) made some in the past & they come up for sale on CPF from time to time.

Check Illumination Supply for the Veleno Designs M3 LED tower. I have one in an M961 and it's the cat's pajamas. 4-hour run time at 250 lumens out-the-front, and cheaper than the TNVC design (and more battery-efficient).

Here you go: http://illuminationsupply.com/m3-tower-module-p-43.html

thanks for the links guys.

75 is a lot better than 299 and going through CR123's like crazy.

I also wouldnt mind getting a nice 6V weapon light. The 9V is huge.

Veleno Designs M3 LED tower

Thanks for the link Yoda.  That's exactly the one I was referring to, and the only LED option available for the M96 AFAIK.

Any of the P60 LED drop ins will work for the M95.

There is another option from a sight sponsor; TNVC has this that im seriously considering.  I know its a little more than the other option posted above but with 600 usable lumens and a run-time of almost 2 hrs i think it will be worth the money. I plan on ordering one in the near future and will give a review of it.

you need to figure out if you want a flood light or a throw light as the MC-E is primarily flood with very little throw. All the multiple die LED'S are the same way including the newer XM-L. Both the MC-E & the XM-L give you a wall of light but may not have the throw that you want.

So what is a good throw unit?  Is the one mentioned earlier in the post a good throw?

The one I mentioned by Veleno Designs is much better. Don't fall into that trap of thinking "600 lumens OMG it must be better."

The Veleno Designs tower locates the LED far above the entrance to the reflector, allowing the LED to be positioned at the best focal point for throw.

Neither drop ins nor replacement heads like TNVC have this feature. The emitter is positioned at the opening of the reflector and a small/short reflector does nothing to help with throw.

600 lumens is a bunch inside a small room for CQB.  600 lumens is still a lot if the LED is housed in a deep reflector with large diameter (think turbo head).  600 lumens from an MC-E or XM-L with a small/short reflector will disappoint you if you need to light up a target at 100 meters.

pw is right. I have the Veleno Designs LED drop-in in my M961, and in my M951s I am using Malkoff M60s. The throw and output is comparable, with the M961/Veleno combo having a slightly less intense hotspot and a more neutral color. But it throws as good as the M60 XR-E w/ optic. And 4 hour runtime to boot. If you want to minimize the hassle of the larger 9v M961 weaponlight get the newest version with the skinny collar and finned head, that's what I got:

Old version that weighs a ton:

What does it take to "Man up" and add a Turbo head to one of these 9v bodies? Outdoor setup out to 100 yards.

Ok so it looks like Illumination Supply is out of stock and from his post on CPforum he wont be making them anymore.  Do ya have any other sources or is there an alternative to them.  I am now in need of two of them as i am about to acquire a Surefire M3 NIB.

Look for used ones. They are worth the wait, and much more sensible than the TNVC offering, not a bash against TNVC but their LED head really is too much and not practical.

Also check LightHound, I got mine from them but they may still be out of stock.

Another 9 volt option is the SF C3. The round body on the M3 probably makes it easier to mount, but the C3 uses the standard P90 light module.  Lots of drop ins to choose from including both the M61 and the M91 from Malkoff.

This new M3 wont be for mounting on a weapon, I already have a m962 for that.  Its going to be just a general use flashlight but I was wanting to upgrade it to led for brightness and longer runtime.

I have several of the TNVC conversions installed on my M500 forends and love them, but the product you linked to is very intriguing-thank you (and Yoda) for suggesting it. Two of my M500s have turbohead bezels, and I didn't think an LED upgrade was possible until now.

Thanks again

ETA: According to the site it's a no-go for the turbohead, but I'm going to buy a couple of them anyway for T&E. I'm really stoked that I clicked on this thread

You might want to read my last post unless you have found another source for these(which i REALLY hope you do because i need two of these).

ETA:  And if you don't find a source and want to part with one of your TNVC units i would be interested in buying one to try out.

The newest items from Veleno Designs are the E2S head to fit SF E-series, $80 for complete head including light engine. Module alone is about $60.

No indication at this time that Steve is going to do another run of towers :(
