i had a possum intruder in the back yard a few nights ago.  i grabbed the m&p 15-22 instead of the 223 (it was 3:15am) to kill the dirty critter, and it was well within the range of the rifle but not my light, so i grabbed my backup and made the kill, while holding the light on the foregrip.  then i had a thought, for a mount and wasnt sure it is even possible.  Im looking for a mount that stays on the picitiny rail with wither 1" or 30m rings, so i can quick attach the light to the gun., not a quick detach, but a quick attach.    i have a cree light setup, with the appropriate mounts, that secures it to the gun itself. but im looking for a way to efeciently and quickly bolt the light to the mounts(that stay on the gun at all times)  . Without having the mounts fixed to the light, so i can use it without being cumbersome and the mounts in the way.  is there such a thing, if so whats the name and where are they...

It seems that most folks who use lights on multiple hosts simply put one of the commonly available QD (QA) mounts on the light itself, not the weapon.  I have at least four lights, mostly IR, set up this way.

If you really need a handheld light without a mount on it, there are plenty of inexpensive options.
