[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Anyone use/like Stream Light? (Page 1 of 2)

Guys,
I just attended a carbine class...and the guy next to me had a Stream Light on one of his rails. The "butterfly" switch looked like a good idea.....move the switch one way and you turn the light on. Move it the other way and stays on only for as long as you held the switch in that position. Seemed cool. |
|
I use a couple of extra pistol mounted lights on my rails. Nothing wrong with them. The recoil from my rifle is less than my handgun, so the light should stand up no problem.
I like the rocker switch which allows me to turn the light constant on if I have to use a second hand for radio, telephone, or anything else. |
| I use a TLR-1 on my Colt rifle. I have put about a thousand rounds through the rifle since attaching the light, 500 of which was in a rifle class. I have not had any problems. I also have one on my Glock35. I probably have about 1000 rounds through it as well since I attched the light. No problems there either. |
|
I used a TLR-1 with tape switch on my SBR for about a year, no problems.
I now have two of them –– one for my G17 and another for occasional shotgun/rifle use (when I want a backup LED to my IR incan lights for longer battery life). Super lightweight and powerful option for those of us who don't want to spend $200 on an X300. |
|
Had my TRL-1 on my M&P 15 for about 18 months. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds later and it's still running like a champ. I've been looking at adding the tape switch, but just haven't pulled the trigger, so to speak.
I love my TRL-1. I would and probably will, buy another one. |

I have seen several posts that say streamlight is good for "indoor" shooting. Is the assertion that they are not waterproof? My tlr2s book says "water resistant" They are referring to lack of throw/brightness at distance. From Streamlight's website: TLR-1 IPX7 rated design; waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

.. best flashlights ever. as good or better than surefire & less than 1/2 the price i can personally recommend the Mini Quark 123 and the Quark 123^2 turbo. each have low, medium, high, moonlight, turbo, strobe, & beacon. the mini goes from less than 1 lumen to 100 & something lumens, and the 123^2 goes from 1 lumen to like 200 & something lumens. the mini is smaller than a 2.75" 12 gauge shotgun shell, & brighter than a surefire G2 LED plus has multiple brightness settings. the turbo i use as a spot light & sneaking light for hunting |

They will handle it, but they are not designed to and the PCB and batteries will take damage from recoil over time. That said, I really only ever use my quark AA^2. Awesome light, the only lights that will last longer on their lowest mode are the HDS lights (much more expensive). If you want to use a 4Sevens light on a weapon, some of the Maelstrom series are recoil protected in the head. Those I would trust 100% on a weapon. Also, 4sevens is not quite surefire quality IMO, but it is very close. Plus they are much brighter. 4Sevens has a very rigorous lumen rating system. ANSI OTF after three minutes IIRC, which means that when most flashlight manufacturers say "350 lumens" it is about as bright as a 4Sevens "200 lumen". And surefire's prices are just ridiculous. Streamlight is fine BTW. Very popular with the LEOs. They are not great, but fine. |

A friend is a LEO with our city PD, and the Streamlight SL-20XP rechargeable is the issue light. He doesn't care for the polymer construction, saying that it isn't good for use as an impact weapon.
The Scorpion has the same threading as the E-series from SF. Use an LED meant for the E2. There aren't many heads available that are E-series compatible, and many are custom units (often titanium) with prices for the head only at $200-$300. There are sometimes bare SF E-series heads for sale on The Marketplace at CPF, normally $40-$50. "Drop in" modules aren't made for the E-series, but a few custom makers produce LED towers - at a high price. With the sales that LAPoliceGear has recently run, some SF models are priced really close to many Streamlights. |

Do not know the timetable for Veleno E2S replacement LED/head. |

How long has you used them mounted to a rifle and what mount are you using? To the OP: I have used a TRL1 on a Glock 21 for a couple of years now with no issue. I also have a TRL1 on an AR and a TRL3 on my wife's G19. No issues with any so far. |

Unless you're scuba diving with them you should be fine. Again, don't put quarks on a gun (except maybe a .22). There is no telling when they will go out. |

Streamlight TLR-2s
160 Lumen white light (with strobe capability) 650-660 nm Laser illuminator Built in 1911 rail Butterfly switch in the rear (4 modes) 2.5 hour runtime 4.72 oz (with batteries) Water resistant (Water proof would be nice, but I'm not planning on scuba diving with my AR) LIFETIME WARANTY!!! AND it can be had for around $275.00! Hard to beat that package for that price. |

Quoted: Do not know the timetable for Veleno E2S replacement LED/head. +1 Anything made by Steve Ku is guaranteed stunning, and lots of people are eager to see the "new" head. I just bought a custom Ti head on The Marketplace at CPF, complete and ready to run, for $170 delivered ... which is dirt cheap for a Ti head that includes the light engine. Many bare Ti heads sell for more than that. Here are the photos from the sale ad, and I'll post some as soon as it arrives (from Germany). Planning to put it on my E2L that I bored for 18650. http://www.messerforum.net/fotoalbum/data/500/medium/P1030088.JPG http://www.messerforum.net/fotoalbum/data/500/medium/P1030087.JPG http://www.messerforum.net/fotoalbum/data/500/medium/P1030089.JPG IMO, this head looks a lot like the McGizmo heads, especially the Sundrop (third light to the right, next to the tall 6 volt Haiku): http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a206/barrymilton/84c22a55.jpg Shown installed on the seller's SF L4: http://www.messerforum.net/fotoalbum/data/500/medium/P1030101.JPG I cannot wait to get this one Damn, and I'm worried that my wife will find out how much our lights cost... ![]() |

and I'm worried that my wife will find out how much our lights cost...
LOL The four McGizmos (which are from L-R a Sapphire keyring light, then the PD-S, Sundrop, and 6 volt Haiku) cost about what a decently equipped AR costs ... roughly $2k. They are all used every day, with the Sapphire on the keyring, the PD-S & Sundrop clipped to my Carhartt bibs all day long, and the Haiku used for dog walking. Nice tools, like nice rifles, aren't cheap. Many Ti lights are priced higher than McG's, & my son gave me one that cost over a grand, but it's too nice to use. |

The laser just died on my tlr-2s, I've yet to find out if Streamlight is going to help me out on warranty. Had it about four months, lasted about 20 rounds on the shotty but the light still works fine. Is the laser on the m6x more rugged? Streamlight has ALWAYS rocked for me with CS. Call them, you might be surprised. |
| STREAMLIGHTS ARE #1. for sure. My dad has had the same light for 20 years of on duty police work, i have a streamlight strion hp on my AR, and we have a few others. never had to replace a battery, super durable, and ultra bright. Too good to be true preformance with no problems!! |

Anybody running a Polytac LED on a rifle? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/TavisB94XJ/Private/4a8196e5.jpg I'll say so far I think it's damn good for the price. |

My friend runs two Polytac HP's (version w/ the larger heads on them). He loves them and they out-throw my G2L like nobody's business. |
| I have a non LED Polytac that I've mounted in a Vtac mount to get a feel of how I want to mount my light. A Polytac LED is on order so I can actually shoot with it (not sure the non-LED version will hold up very long under fire). I'm also thinking of getting the Gear Sector G2 mount instead of the Vtac mount. |
