Hello,

New PVS-14 owner and I am looking at a good IR laser for use with an AR

Looking through TNVC website I found the DBAL , the ITAL and the OTAL. (EDIT - I am only looking at the Class 1 lasers, something for personal non MIL/ non LEO use)

The DBAL has both visible and IR lasers, ITAL and OTAL are just IR lasers.

Questions:
1.) Is the performance of the IR laser the same bewteen the DBAL and the ITAL / OTAL ?
2.) In regards to the ITAL, will it clear a folding front sight base (ala Troy) when mounted at 12 oclock , or would the OTAL be the better choice?

In regards to performance, what is the feedback on these units?

Thanks for any input.

DBAL-I2 is not the same as DBAL-A2 in that the visible and IR aiming lasers are not co-aligned on the former, i.e. they have independent W&E adjustments.

All of the LDI Class I lasers have the same power at 0.07mW advertised.  Effective range estimates for Class I lasers seem to vary from 70-100+ yards, depending on the source of information.  It sounds like you would be best served with an OTAL form factor if Class I is suitable for your range requirements.

Yes the Laser Max unit is less expensive, but I wouldn't put it's durability up against the OTAL.

Someday I'd like to get a Laser Max (in fact I'm the one who originally asked them for this), but the discussion I've read was that there's some concern for its durability. http://lightfighter.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1726007013/m/13220441763

I'm hoping some of these issues have been addressed, but if I was looking for a small IR laser right now, I'd get the LDI. Vic also hinted that LDI are working on some pistol units, so I'm really oping those turn up by the time I can get my PVS-14.

ETA: As for the OP's questions... I'd get the OTAL over the ITAL. It's a more versatile unit, basically the ITAL would work on any gun you want to put it on regardless of front sight. Offset zero with a laser isn't that hard to work around.
