So I had a gift card to spend and I found a surefire 6P in a gunmetal on sale for $39. I would really like to gut the tailcap and convert it to a clicky type and convert it to LED. I have no idea what Im doing can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I think you need the Z59 tailcap and the KX4 LED head.

That's a start anyhow. Perhaps a quick call to SureFire customer service could verify this.

That would work but would be spendy and I would rather not add black parts to a gunmetal colored light . More interested in adding the clicky to my existing tailcap and swapping put the lamp asm for a good EDC LED lamp asm

This is a great site if you want to mod your 6p. http://www.oveready.com/sf-upgrades-accessories/mcclicky-self-installation-kit/prod_23.html

Check out candlepowerforums, you will become enlightened.....

Here are three of my 6P's. The two on the outside have Defender bezels, Z59 tailcaps, and 280 lumes Malkoff M61 drop ins. The light in the middle is an Oveready host that has been bored out to handle rechargeable batteries, has an HAIII natural finish, with McClicky converted Z41 tailcap, and has a Nailbender SST50 600 lumen drop in (it's a $225 light).

The empty tailcap is getting ready to get a McClicky on go on one of the black 6P's.  The McClicky upgrade blows the Z59 away.

All three are awesome. The more lumens the less runtime. The SST50 gets less than an hour on 2 123's. The Malkoffs gets a little more than 2 hours. While I haven't had any issues with Nailbender at all, the Malkoffs are clearly built more robustly.

Here is the Nailbender SST50 on an empty house that backs to mine.

Same house with the Malkoff M61.

The pics aren't the greatest but you can for sure see the difference. If I can give some advice that I learned the hard way, don't buy any of the no name Chinese junk. Solarforce is good to go, everything else I would avoid without research or you are probably wasting your money. If you plan on using your light for serious issues I would personally go with a Malkoff, he makes the M61 in three different outputs with varying runtimes. The M61L is a great all around drop in with 170 lumens and a 5 hour regulated runtime.

Another vote for the McClicky upgrade kit. The ones on our nightstands have GITD Silicon Boots.

For an EDC light, I would look at Malkoff's M61LL.

100 Lumens for 10+ hours.

I get 15+ hours from the older M60LL's, so I think that you will get the same battery life from the newer M61LL, too.

I hear ya...  I've got an M60LL in a Malkoff MD2 host and a couple of M61LL's in G3's.  The most versatile drop in on the market period.  You can throw AA's in the G3 and it will run for days out of regulation.

I've got a few of the original Malkoff 240 lumen drop ins, they have been and still are awesome!
I use them in a couple of Scout weaponlights, and a 6P Defender, that lives in the Jeeps driver side door compartment.
How long are these things supposed to last anyway?  Longer than me?

Are you talking about how long the LED is supposed to last?  The Cree's last, on average, 50,000 hours.

The M60's using give you 90-100 minutes of full power light, then taper down over the next hour until the batteries are dead.  The M61's are a little better, but use a reflector, not an optic.

RedFalconBil, 15 hours, wow.  I've got to check that out, incredible.
100 lumens plenty for a nightstand light, don't you think!

Yep, I was talking about how long till the LEDs burn out.  They almost don't!

I've got to put me a couple more together, many thanks for the advice and experience.

Gene likes to give out real run time with his drop-ins. So when he says 10+ hours, he means it.

I just told you all the run times I have gotten with my M60LL's (the older 80 Lumen version of the M61LL).

I'm glad I popped into this thread. Now I know about the McClicky tailcap mod for my G2L.
