just a little background, ive always been a streamlight fanatic, they have always made a quality product and customer service has been great, however the NIMH batteries they use just suck! and they dont have the greatest selection of 123 cell lights or weapon lights, i do have the tlr-2, but find i dont ever use it, just dont have the need for a weapon light. ok that being said, im looking at surefire lights now instead, im looking for a light that could be used for carry, home, work etc, also something that could be weapon mounted if the need arises. i really like the LX2 @ 200 lumens or 15 lumens, anyone have any experience with this light? can you recommend a high quality (larue, vltor, etc) weapon mount for it? i know i said i dont have a need for a weapon light but i would like to have a mount in my gear bag JIC. also are the surefire 123 batteries good? im open to different light/mount suggestions as well. sorry for any confusion |

i really like the LX2 @ 200 lumens or 15 lumens, anyone have any experience with this light? It's been my EDC for ages. I really like the two-stage push button pressure switch User Interface - press for low output, press further/harder for high output. It's so simple and intuitive to use. I find SureFire's TIR optic produces a really useful beam. It's large and bright and has acceptable spill (surround beam). Other things I like is the new styling to replace the knurling. It's smooth in the 'direction' to make carrying it in a pocket or whatever easy, and yet offers purchase to grip to rotate the TailCap for constant-on / LockOut. The two-way PocketClip allows for bezel-down carry and this is how I most often carry it. Quoted:

Given the UI weapon-mounting the LX2 does not leap out as a good idea based on the mechanics of the TailCap switch...I've no idea how well it would hold up to pounding by the batteries under recoil... I'd want to get user feedback before relying on it but if it's only for field-expediency, one-off use then it'll likely be fine. Quoted:
also are the surefire 123 batteries good? SureFire SF123A batteries are made in the USA. There is only one manufacturing plant making OEM CR123A batteries in the USA. You should only ever use CR123A batteries made in the USA such as SureFire SF123A batteries for SureFire products. |

This is a pretty good combo: http://www.vikingtactics.com/pop-vtac_surefire_L4.html Surefire now rates the E2D LED at 200 Lumens and it's a little cheaper. |

This is a pretty good combo: http://www.vikingtactics.com/pop-vtac_surefire_L4.html Surefire now rates the E2D LED at 200 Lumens and it's a little cheaper. The VTAC-L4 is essentially a hand-held version of the M600C ScoutLight, and with VTAC's mount facilitates dual use (both handheld and weapon-mounted). Both the M600C and VTAC-L4 feature the KX2C LED bezel. This has the same TIR optic and drives the LED for the same output as the E2DL. Unlike the E2DL the VTAC-L4 is a single-level light and doesn't suffer from the weapon-mounted issues that putting an E2DL on a weapon can lead to. Namely the dual output clickie User Interface operates by sensing a break in circuit and toggling between high and low output. This is usually resulting from the user clicking the light off and on again but experience has found that these can happen under recoil resulting in the light switching back and forth between high and low. You never know what you're gonna get. Summary? The E2DL is not suited to being mounted on a weapon. The LX2 may not be suited to being mounted on a weapon. The M600C is specifically designed to be mounted on a weapon. The VTAC-L4 has been created from WeaponLight-components for dual use. |
