What is the best / most popular laser to mount on an AR?

I would recommend a lasermax unimax about the size of a matchbook it comes in red & green laser versions

It is not water proof but it is tough & hold zero very well

The whole green visible laser is pretty popular right now.  They are really cool, however I have played with several that claim they can withstand recoil and hold a zero but haven't found that to be the truth at all.  Most of the green lasers require you to remove the cap and use a tiny allan wrench to adjust 3 screws to zero the laser, pieces of shit, the other model that has external windage and elevation adjustment does adjust a whole lot easier but still doesn't hold very well.  You can hit them with your hand and they will move the POI several inches as close as 25 yards.  Best bet is to get a real weapon laser from lasermax or the like, expensive but they do work.

I have the aimshot 8200...which isnt available to civilians but the 8100 is just as nice with a little less power. I have fired hundreds of rounds with it on and its fine. Also guaranteed for five years and its green.

Insight CVL/PEQ5 used to be military issue and is a very decent unit as well as the OTAL.

You really get what you pay for. If you're getting sticker shock, that means you're getting a unit that will work for you when you need it. I'd budget a minimum of $500.

If you're not getting sticker shock, chances are you're looking at something Chinese that's good for airsoft and is not durable enough to handle being on an AR for long.

Insight recently raised their price on the CVL to just shy of $1000.  Why?  I have no idea.  It is part of the SOPMOD Block 1 kit, but that shouldn't make it twice as expensive as the comparable unit from the competition, the Laser Devices OTAL.  We sell them both here.

It's true that you get what you pay for.  The more robust, milspec housings and positive click adjustments retain zero.  There is a lot more information on our site.  Feel free to give us a call if we can help.

I have heard great things about the Surefire X400 light/laser combo as well.

what's wrong with one of the sights designed for pistols?  there would be more felt recoil with a pistol in yur hands than a rifle in the shoulder pocket.

I have heard good things about the LaserMax units as well but most complaints seem to come from the plastic body and the really fragile feeling on/off switch. If they made an aluminum housing I would probably have the LM unit on all of my rifles.
