I did not see it on the Surefire website...any input on maker and retailers?

There are many high-output LED modules made overseas that you can find on ebay and at various retailers.

Elzetta offers the 235 honest-lumen Malkoff M60 LED Module that is Made in the USA.

The M60 is the OEM module in the new Elzetta ZFL-M60 Series of Tactical Lights and features optical beam projection (not a reflector), patent-pending heat sink technology, and fully potted electronics.

^^^ nice plug
but going back to the OP's question they are made by this company http://www.cree.com/

Cree makes LED chips (in fact the Malkoff M60 LED Module plugged above uses a Cree chip).  They do not, however, make complete LED Drop-In Modules for Tactical Flashlights which is what I believe the OP was referring to.

The Malkoff M60 shown above will fit in your G2L and it puts out an honest 235 lumens out the front.

We sell them for $55.00 here.

OK that sounds pretty good...can the unit burn out other the battery life?

I got one from here as well as a Malkoff when he sold them directly to his customers. Both are still working from 2007.  The one factor is heat which plastic does not conduct well.

The M60 LED Module is rated for 50,000 hours (over 5 years continuous operation!) so it will not burn out anytime soon.

As for battery life, the M60 will produce its full output of 235 lumens for approximately 1.5 hours on two fresh 123A batteries and then another 6.5 hours or so of useful tactical light.

This is the TNVC Q5 Drop in Lamp Module.  It is directly compatible with Surefire G2, G2L, and 6P lights.  We have been selling a huge amount of these to LE and Military folks with many going to Ft. Bragg.  Pat Rogers has been using them in his guns for a while and mentioned them in a recent SWAT article.  We have had no complaints.  They are incredibly bright and will give you a 2-hour run time on one set of batteries.  But, given the heat produced by an LED, I would not recommend leaving it on for 2 hours straight
Well, at least use a metal head for these environments. ;-)

The reason our lamps are so popular is because a lot of our lumens are found in the "spill" of the light.  This is very important when entering a room because it is the edges and corners that often hide a threat.  The more light you can get into these areas, the better your survivability.  A lot of lights on the market have really bright hotspots, which is nice, but if the lumens taper off outside of this, you loose a lot of your benefits.

Your G2LED should come with a metal head direct from the factory. I have never used one of the TNVC drop ins, but I do not doubt their quality and ruggedness. I have, however, made up quite a few 6P / G2L lights using the Malkoff drop in module and the difference in illumination over the standard LED is amazing. OTOH the original LED will give you much longer run times on a set of batteries. I made the mistake once of buying a couple of cheap Cree drop ins off of Ebay. When they worked they were fine, but they never worked consistently...I gave them away and considered it a lesson learned.

I am sure the Cree chips are probably made where almost everything else is these days...China.

Be cautious about what drop in you buy.  I bought a Hong Kong drop in for giggles.  Fired 5 rds trhough my riffle and the light flickers on and off now.  I'll be buying a quality drop in soon. Just have to decide which.

ETA: just bought a Malkoff from Elzetta.
