Does anyone know where I could get a good price for one of these?

Yes, here

Search for "surefire".  Most days there are several of these 961 beast.  That is one big ass light.

Are you 100% set on that model?  The 900 series Surefires are very durable and heavy...more so than they need to be in my opinion.

You could get a G3 Nitrolon in the mount of your choice and have just as functional of a light, for a lot less money.

Better yet, get a G3 LED.

How heavy is this light?

And do you know if a Malkoff M60 will work with it?

Around 12 1/2 ounces depending on what tailcap you choose.  And around $400 depending on who you buy it from.

You could easily spend less than half  that amount on on my previous suggestions that are significantly lighter, have more versatility in mounting options, and end up with a set up thats more than durable enough for the majority of uses.  I had a 961 and 951 and sold them both for G2 Nitrolons in Viking Tactics mounts.  The 900 series lights felt like I tied a brick to the forearm, and I dont mind a heavy gun at all as long as it's balanced.

Would Malkoff drop-in work with the 961?

If your going to go with a drop in LED, I would choose the G2 option previosly mentioned above. The best thing about the 961 is the higher lumens and throw, a LED would bring that down. I probably wouldn't use the 961 inside anyway.

Now I'm actually thinking of going with a m951 with m60 drop in.
Seems like a good way to go.
Small package, 235lumens, more run time, and good throw.

Only now, I'm pondering which mount to get it with; a larue mount or the standard surefire thumbscrew mount.

If you DON'T need IR or other "filter" capabilities, a Malkoff drop in on an 951 is w/o a doubt the better way to go.

A "standard" 96x Surefire is about 125 lumens, which is pretty bright for inside work. I can't find the exact post, but, someone a while ago posted results of shining some of the different weapons mounted lights onto white sheet rock inside an urban household. If I recall correctly, it was pretty evident that any more than about 120 lumens (the M60 generates over 200+ lumens) for indoor work is actually BAD for your eyes and leaves you completely night blind for quite a while.

I know your looking for a 200+ lumens solution, but, keep in mind that having that much power on tap is could "backfire" if precautions are not taken.

An M60WF(170 lumens) or the M60WLF (100 lumens) might be a better solution than the M60 if your going to be focusing on indoor activity. Also, they give you much longer battery life than what you can expect with an M96x or stock M95x.

Just some food for thought...

I was going to use a red filter for indoor use.

Would a Malkoff M60 drop in have more throw than a TVNC Q5?

If your going to use a drop in LED, why not go with a 6P and buy a mount. Would be much cheaper.
