i have a 9p mounted to an m4gery and i guess its not rated to survive the repeated recoil.  the light still works you just have to shake it and smack it to get it on sometimes.  any ideas on what might be wrong or if it's repairable?  screw down tail cap, no press switch.  thanks

There's nothing to break in a 9P with a twisty tailcap other than the lamp assembly itself.

Are you using the stock P90 bulb or an LED drop-in?

As noted, the 9P is not a WeaponLight.
A number of things could be causing intermittent function:
1) the batteries could have become crushed preventing reliable contact.
2) the TailCap spring contact, and/or the two Lamp Assembly spring contacts could have become compressed and are unable to provide sufficient tension.
3) the Lamp Assembly could have a broken solder contact.
4) the push button pressure switch assembly could be misaligned ('jammed to one side')

I just read your post again "screw down tail cap, no press switch"
So it isn't a standard 9P? The TailCap does not have a textured rubber push button?
The SureFire Z21 Closed End TailCap with Lanyard Attachment point is a strange TailCap to use on a WeaponLight.
More likely you mean your 9P doesn't have a remote tape pressure switch?

Regardless, the most likely cause is crushed batteries - I suggest you try three fresh SF123A batteries.
If that does not resolve things - you may like to very carefully slightly stretch the spring contacts. Do Not simply pull the springs from their mounting points. Start by stretching only one or two coils of the spring - otherwise you risk breaking the Lamp Assembly or pulling the TailCap spring out of it's press-fit location and it's a pain to replace.
If that doesn't fix things - I suggest you replace the Lamp Assembly with your spare.

Note that a dedicated WeaponLight is designed to prevent all of these things becoming issues.

I had the same issue.
The spring at the back of the bulb got compressed and didn't make contact all the time.
New bulb and its back to new for now.
