Hey guys,
I just happen to come across this light and it may be exactly what I’ve been looking for? My current light setup is a 6P body with the SI head and Z49 tailcap and a Malkoff head. This is all mounted in a VTAC mount on the 12 o’clock rail and the light in the 11 o’clock position. The Malkoff head is awesome (bright, white, good throw and spill, long run time) and overall, I love everything about this setup except for the size and weight. Looks like the VTAC-L4 light with the new improved mount may be the answer but I don’t know much about the KX2C head? According to VTAC’s site, it’s rated @ 120 Lumens for 78 minutes which would mean that it is not as bright and has less runtime then my current Malkoff head. Surefire’s site states that the runtime is 2 hours which I can live with and a review I read on Calgun claimed this head has been independently tested and is actually more like 210 Lumens? If those specs are right, (210 Lumens for 120 minutes) I would be very happy with it. So if any other you have 1st hand experience with the KX2C head, let me know how you like it (color, throw, spill, runtime, etc..) Thanks! |

I have seen KX2C's run from 171-192L I saw one E2DL put out a max 210L Luck of the draw. SF uses whatever XR-E LED meets spec, which is 120L, which means you have NO CLUE what output/tint you will get. They aren't like a Malkoff where things are more controlled. THey are GOOD lights though, and even the weakest M600C I have seen out-threw the M60. TIR optic owns. |

Well I'm not one of those guys who has to have the hottest tourch out there so if it's anywhere in the 170-210 range I'll probably be fine with it assuming the throw and spill are as good as I've read. The tint is another thing. I can't stand LED's with a blue tint. White lights should be just that, white! I have an E2D laying around that I don't use much. I usually order stuff like this from BrightFlashlights so I may just order the head from them and see if the can test it out before sending it to me? |

I recently bought a VTAC L4. Based on a ceiling bounce test with lightmeter, I am estimating its output as ~200..220 lumens which makes it the brightest single die LED light I own, it's definitely brighter than the E2DL I had earlier (that one was in the 160-170 range). Nice neutral/slightly yellowish tint, too. I guess I got lucky.
Oh and it sure can throw... the lightmeter shows 7750 lux at 1 meter. The original M600A Scout with the KL4 head produced only around 750 lux (10x difference in throw!). |
