I have just obtained a tactical light for my AR after getting my rails put on. Is there an advantage of the light being on the left side over the right for any reason. I am right handed if that matters. At the current time, I have it mounted on the left side with the pressure switch mounted on the right side of my foregrip.
Just wondering from those that have them and have more experience with them. |
| General “Operators”(who I envy) mount them on the bottom, because there’s nothing like dressing up in you tactical kit and looking so cool and then bashing a hole in the drywall when you try to come around that corner fast, plus on the bottom the light will be inline with your sight picture whether your leaning around a right or left hand corner. |

I'd say function when in use beats comfort when slung & I've found a high VFG grip (think using your support hand on the forend & VFG like you do on a good high thumbs forward two-handed pistol grip) makes the gun easier/faster to run & that requires the light be on (for right handers) the left side of the gun if you're using a push button tailcap. It'll be a non-issue for a tape switch but I'm not sold on those things at all.
Depending on how forward you can mount the light having it under the barrel can cause a pretty good size shadow on target which kinda defeats the purpose of the light in the first place. |
