I'm familiar with the Surefire products, but haven't used their LED lights. Was looking at the 918 for my Remington, but the battery life seems to be much better for the LED version. Anybody tried a side by side for the LED and Xenon bulbs? Whic did you prefer? |
| I am not flash light expert, but I have begun to switch all my surefires to LED. My 1st was an E2 Executive I've had for years. The run time on LEDs is a huge advantage and the lumens put out are becoming comparable to xenon bulbs. My only xenon Surefire is the shotgun forearm for my 870. |

The 618LF and 618LFG use the P60L LED Lamp Assembly. It's beam is very similar to the P60 incandescent Lamp Assembly although LED 'white' light does tend not to have the reach of fuller-spectrum incandescent light. I suggest you may like to checkout a 6PL or G2L (both of which also use the P60L) to see whether you like the beam. |
| The Surefire LED driven shotgun systems are using the same P60L that's in the G2L, 6PL, etc.; they will be ideal for in-house & close quarters situations and be highly reliable with longer battery runtime. There are some differences between the LED (LF/LFG) & incan' (FA/FGA) models... the LED will provide a 'cleaner' whiter beam pattern with less reflected glare than the incan' models but for ranges exceeding 40-45yds. the 6v incandascent models will work welln out to 50-55yds & the 9v systems out 80-90+ yds. |
Good info! So what are my options if I want to convert an existing SF M918 forend to LED? |
That's the "9V" version of the forend for the Remington 870... Which Lamp Module do you have? The L90 Classic, or the LM90 Millennium (with the same bezel and MN10/MN11 lamps as the M3) ?? If you have the LM90 you'll need to get a new Lamp Module as there aren't any aftermarket LED bezels for the LM90 that I'm aware of, and SureFire have given no time scale for releasing their updated high output LED bezel ("KX9") to replace the discontinued KL9. If you have the Classic L90 you can replace the P90 incandescent lamp assembly with the P60L LED lamp assembly. There are also a variety of aftermarket products you can 'drop-in' to replace the P90. I'm not sure what SureFire are calling the LED Lamp Module they are already supplying with LED forend WeaponLights I mention in my post above. I'd call it the "L60L". I doubt they have it available for retail by itself but it wouldn't heart to call them and ask. |
