I now have it mounted on my M4.

Attached via a free float rail.

I was cycling the bolt for dryfire, let the bolt slam down, and I notice a very faint amount of light on the ceiling.

When you let the bolt fly home, the goddamn light partially turns on *very faint, but enough to clearly see on teh ceiling of a poorly lit room* and then off right away.

Is this normal?  I've already sent one of these fucking things back because it shot the beam to the side....I'm seriously fed up with these things.

I thought the light was coming through the new hole in your ceiling.. glad to find out I was wrong.

That's b/c of the touch to activate feature inherent w/SF's "X" series switch style.

My TLR-1 doesn't do that.

It doesn't bother me b/c my X300 stays put on my HK P30.
Incidentally, mine doesn't act like yours does when I let the slide go on the P30.

Ok. I mounted my X300 to my LaRue 11.0 at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock rails, let the bolt slam home in each position and ZERO ND.

Perhaps your X300 is FUBAR'd. I'd call SureFire and ask, but I doubt it's normal.
Have you tried to make your X300 ND whilst mounted on a pistol?

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me unless it gave up my position in a tactical situation.

YMMV

You could get the blackout cover for the bezel, like I did, to eliminate giving away your position.  If you can swallow the enormous cost- $68.00!!

I think I will send it back.  I dont like any light that goes on when its not supposed to, even though it really wouldnt cause any problems for my use.  I'll mount it on a pistol and see what happens....

But this will be the SECOND time I have to send it back, and it took them almost TWO FUCKING MONTHS to send me the first replacement X300, after saying "it will take a few weeks".

They better send me a return label and agree to have it fixed or replaced in a week, I'm absolutely fed up with them.

Surefire is like the Force. It's only strong in some people.

No seriously though, that sucks. I have an X200B on my SBR that does not go activate unless I turn it on.

it's they way they designed the momentary feature on the switch.
Sounds like the contacts are to close together and the force from the bolt going forward it enough to barely let them touch.

I have had some x200/300s that do that and some that don't. I also attributed it to the switching -- the stiffer the switch, the less of a problem it was. But I never use the toggle switches on my x300s -- always use the DG or XT switches, so the toggle switches never get much use and stay pretty stiff.

I never really considered it a problem, figuring the muzzle flash would probably be more noticeable.

Kind of what I figured as well...as long as its not a defect then I guess its fine.

It took 5 months for me to get my replacement X300.  I didn't mind too much but it was a little frustrating.  The new one has been on my Glock 19 for about a month now and all is well.  The reason SureFire gave me for the long wait was that the X300 was backordered.  But as I mentioned I'm glad the wait is over and hoping I won't have any issues with it again.

FWIW, I still will buy SureFire again as I have several of their handheld units that worked flawlessly over the years.

Buddy of mine purchased a surefire 6p at the PX while we were in iraq. He used it for 2 days and it stopped working. He then got another bulb which didnt work either. Shortly after that we couldnt make any more trips to that PX (war zone go figure). So he wrote the surefire to see if they would issue a replacement. The summary of the email basically stated "you are using our products in harsh environments and we cant warrenty them for that."

That's fucked up.  After all that talk about Surefire being the best, that email and the OP's experience make me glad I never spent money on their overpriced lights.

I've had 3 brinkmanns and 3 streamlights and none have given me any problems.

The only wa I see that response from their customer service is if he had it mounted on a weapon. They make wepon light for weapons so they probably won't warranty it when not used for it's intended purpose.

If there is some issue with the X300 I hope Surefire will fix it right away. I am planning to get one to use with my XT-07 on a lightweight carbine. My X200 has been nothing less tha spectacular.

Surefire will tell you that the 6P, and similar lights are not made as weapon lights and are not to be used as such. If you do so, you will need to use the shock bezel to prevent damage to light. Some will work fine for a while, and others longer but the only solution is to use a shock bezel or a true weapon light.

If by right away you mean close to half of a year...then yes.  You are correct.

I wonder if they have the same CEO as Sig.

The bolt slamming home should not cause an X300 to light up. If it is, I'd say there's something wrong with the switch on your unit.

LOL, exact same though going through my head when I was reading of these probs with the x300. I was planning on getting one, but now I think I'll wait and see what people are saying over the next several months.

Or just get a TLR1.

Both my X300 (newer) and my 1st GEN X200  (yes, the have different Generations of the same models...).

X200 - hundreds of rounds on the .45 ACP and the 9MM. As well as at least 200 on my AR15.

Neither the X300 or the X200 ' turn on' when bolt or slide are released.

TLR (IMHO) is a nice light. I wouldn't mind owning one, would never trust my life on it.

I know SF will take care of the faulty switch if it is faulty.  Everything can not be perfect, SF is the closest to perfection, there is a reason why darn near every company (tries to) make their lights like them.

Using a light or anything else for something other then what it is designed for (like a 6P on a rifle in a very tough part of the world - THANKS guys & gals BTW) if you use your flashlight for a hammer, and it stops working, go figure, they may not cover it, use a weapon light on weapon, use a hand light in the hand. Just cause 100mph tape sticks it good to the forend - doesn't mean it'll keep the area lighted up when you need to light it up.

I have a Surefire X200 LED, 2 X300's and 1 X400. IMO, these are the best weapon lights out there. That being said, there is definatly some variance between the manufacturing lots...

The pressure requried to activate the light with the momentary/push switch varies from model to model and light to light. My X300's and X400 feel lighter than the X200... I haven't had any problems with this, just something I noticed.

I have the tail cap switch for the 200 and 300, but I don't use it on my carbines. After spending the time/money to purchase them, they really didn't do anything for me... The same with the DEVGRU switches I bought...I just didn't like them any better.

My X300 that has the lightest activation is on my Sig 556 ER that I use for HD. Its mounted directly infront of my Tango Down VFG, and since I operate it momentarily with my knuckle, a lighte swtich is easier and more comfortable. The switch is very light, but there aren't any issues with it coming on or off when the gun is fired or being cycled. Even on my handguns, I don't have any issues with the lights turning on or off. With the variance I have noticed in the switches, it seems entirely possible to me that you could have a very light/ultra sensitive switch that would activate in a strong breeze.

Another thing I have noticed about my SF weaponlights is how different lots/models fit different guns. Of my collection, I have the lights numbered because some don't fit on my Sigs or Glocks as well as the others. They usually go on, but its very tight and a huge fiasco to remove them.

They are awesome, but there seems to be a lot of variance IMO.
