| Looking at possibly picking up one of these lights, but would love to hear some reviews from the ground pounders that have used/own/owned one. |
What do you intend to use it for? A dedicated weapon light (carbine, shotgun) or a general purpose tactical light for use with a handgun? Frankly I think it's too bright for a general purpose light in either role. People aren't always aware of this, but if you get too bright a light and try to use it inside a structure with lightly painted walls you can zap your night vision straight to hell or even flashbulb yourself when you activate the light, which is unsat in the extreme. We had guys flashbulbing themselves with one of those lights in the last Vickers/Hackathorn low light class I attended, and they struggled in the shoothouse because they kept getting a mild flashbulb effect every time they used the light. I think they were using the 125 lumen module in it. My general rule is that you don't want to go more than 80 or 90 lumens for a general purpose light to avoid that possibility. If you are trying to light up something 100 yards away, on the other hand, 100 or more lumens is the way to go. |

Good point above ^^. I have 3 M3 Combatlights and have no complaints. I have one outfitted w/ a old KL 2 LED head for general home use, and another M3 ready on the desk. I also use one for duty that has the crenalated bezel. All my M3s got dropped one time or another but still keeps banging. One time on a traffic stop I left the M3 on the hood and drove off when I heard a loud "clang." Picked it up with the addition of a few more 'character' marks and still works. For me, the M3 fits perfect in my hands. Its got good ergonomics and makes for an excellent impact weapon with its crenalated bezel. |
| I guess what I'm looking for is a good quality all around light. I do not personally own any night vision, so I don't foresee that being an issue. I just want a light that is reliable, puts out alot of light, can burn an intruder's eyeballs out, or illuminate somebody at a pretty descent distance. I would say this would be a great fit for that, mainly I was looking for any of the negatives. Thanks for all of the advice. |
