With carbines and specifically SBR's the M962 Surefire has it's drawbacks - like size and weight, not to mention being a battery hog. Great weapon-light otherwise.

So I am looking for another.

I read that Insight Technologies was awarded the (SOPMOD) VBL III contract, , so it is an obvious choice. But I don't know what model they selected. I think the MX3 or MX6.

So, enter the venerable Surefire Scout. Looking at the Surefire webpage, they list the Scout product........

The current M600A and M600 KIT01 Scout Lights are no longer available.

We are creating the next evolution in the Scout Light - the M600C, which will be coming out this summer. It will be brighter, tougher, and will run longer than ever before.

Anyone seen heard, or know anything about the new Surefire M600C? Or know more about the SOPMOD IT product selection?

as always....thanks for any insight

SureFire have released their E2DL featuring a bezel without 120 lumen output, surpassing the X300 in output. Word is that the M600C will feature a non-crenelated version of this new bezel with similar output (unlike the E2DL it will have a single output level)

I've been thinking about upgrading my Scout to LED for a while and I guess I'm going to wait a little longer.  I'm eager to see what the new one is like.

Will the P61L be even a higher output?

It's supposed to do around 200 lumens.  I guessing runtime is going to be between 60 and 80 minutes.

That is the plan as far as SureFire have let on.
The P61L is not a new product that features high on my personal priority list though because I prefer two-stage models such as the L1/A2 etc which have been designed from the ground up to be LED.

Just a heads up...

The first batch of E2DL's are actually single level output, as originally stated in the 2008 SF catalog.  The LED puts out 120 lumens for about 2 hours.  Apparently the specs were changed after the first run was done.  The website and package labeling were updated, but the single level lights still made it out of the factory.  Dealers have been told that after this first shipment, future E2DL's will be dual output: 5 lumens on low, 120 on high.

As size15s stated these single output heads may appear on the M600C, but you can get them now to upgrade your M600A.  IMO, the E2DL head is much better suited for a rifle than the KL4 head on the M600A.  And as a bonus, you can put the KL4 head on the E2DL body and you have a black L4.
