What is the general consensus on the Surefire P60 LED assembly?  I have a 6P and G2 and want to convert them to LEDs to mike them brighter, longer-lasting, and more durable.  I have seen drop-in heads from DealExtreme (www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8807,  www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4296) and Pacific Tactical Solutions that seem to exceed the Surefire in terms of output and are slightly cheaper.  Thanks in advance!

Well, I can tell you this much, my local SF distributor is selling these like hotcakes.  Most of the guys on my watch, including myself, have switched to the P60Ls.   It has a nice bluish-white tinge to it, and the best thing is not having to worry about the bulbs breaking.   As soon as I get more funds I'm gonna replace all my P60s w/ P60Ls.

I've been very happy with my 6PL lights. A bit of warning about using the conversion lamp in your G2 though... The nitrolon doesn't dissapate the heat very well resulting in the LED getting warm. Because the LEDs have a regulator in them the light output will drop considerably (reports that I've read indicate that you'll drop from 80 lumens to roughly 20) rather quickly. This is a real enough issue that on the G2L that Surefire sells, you actually get the aluminum head instead of the nitrolon one.

The LED unit that Surefire is currently selling is very good and I've been happy with it. That said, I really hope that Surefire adopts the CREE LED for the next iteration of Surefire LEDs.

No heat issues in 100++ hours of a CREE drop-in bulb and a G2 with nitrolon bezel.  My father runs one as his primary light for work in the HVAC/R business.  He runs it with both the 3.7v Wolf Eyes rechargeable and the dual 123a setup.

Also, actual G2 LED products shipping from Surefire do not have aluminum head.

They may switch later, or they may have already switched, but the one I got last week does not have the aluminum bezel.

Interesting. I wonder if they some sort of in place product replacement with the aluminum head? I was assured by the Surefire sales rep that the G2 had an aluminum head just last week.

No idea.  The packaging was all new, sealed up, with the little banner boasting brighter & longer output.  New & Improved, etc....

If they had time to print it and package it with the new ink, I'd think the light could get the aluminum vs. nitrolon.

It had a nitrolon bezel though, and a really nice bright LED in it - despite the new packaging.

Edit:  My guess is the SF customer service rep was looking at the online picture -- not an actual product.

Actually, they're already out.  One of the guys at work just bought one last week from our SF distributor.   Same G2 body w/ 6p aluminum head.

Looks like the G2 LED does have an aluminum head on the SF site but its is strange that tey dont offer that head for non LED g2 upgrades

I already bought one and already received it.  Nitrolon head.

They may be switching to the 6P bezel, or maybe they already did, but the one I received last week on December 19th, 2007 didn't have one.  So they are not 100% 6P bezel.

It had the new packaging, new LED, and nice vaccum sealed package.

Yesterday I saw a G2LED with the nitrolon body and aluminum head at Lowe's. They also had the 6P.

The G2L (both -BK Black and -YL Yellow) come with aluminium bezels which better allow the heat generated by the LED to move away and dissipate thereby allowing the P60L (which has a thermal sensor) to regulate at a higher output (similar to the 6PL) then it can in the Nitrolon bezel.

The incandescent P60 Lamp Assembly does not need an aluminium bezel. However, if you want one for your G2/G2Z then you can get the Z44-BK (Black) or Z44-HA (Hard Anodised). Unlike the G2L bezel the Z44 has a Pyrex (glass) window rather than a Lexan (polycarbonate) window. The P60L LED bezel does not produce a beam of thermal energy and so does not need a glass window.
Depending on your usage (amount of constant-on use, environmental conditions etc) you may find your G2's Lexan window deforming in the heat. If this happens you can call SureFire and have it replaced. They even replace it with a G2Z Nitrolon bezel which has a Pyrex window.

NB: The G2L-YL has only just started shipping with an aluminium bezel (in yellow anodised finish)

I hope this helps?
