Is light placement on a rail system a matter of personal preference? On my 6920, are there tactical advantages/disadvantages? Thx |

Personally I prefer directly under the barrel. Shadowing from the barrel or other weapon parts out to the side is distracting, plus the shadow straight up leaves a dark tunnel to sight through, reducing glare from the light from smoke, dust, etc in the air. ETA: Also avoids glare/lens flare in optics. |

I use to have my Pentagon X3HA mounted at the 4:00 position, and engage the switch with my thumb. I recently (2 months ago) changed they way I use my VFG, and now have my light mounted at the 11:00 position, and still use my thumb to engage the switch. I don't wrap my off hand around the VFG anymore. I grip the VFG pretty much the same way I would when I shoot a pistol with both hands. My left thumb rests in the groove between the top rail and the left side rail of my forearm, pointing forward. |
What mount are you using that puts your light directly beneath the barrel? I too want to position it there for the same reasons you described but am finding difficulty finding a mount that will position it like I want. |
I'm using the VLTOR Scout Mount SM-E, SM-CK and SM-G depending on the diameter of the light barrel. I haven't put them thru any torture test or anything but they seem very solid and well made. I really like the fact that you can mount and dismount with no tools. I have a couple mounted at 6 o'clock on standard handgards using Midwest Industries short rail attachment too. Are you using a vertical grip? If so, you might want to consider an offset light mount for an easier, more comfortable reach: Viking offset -- ![]() Daniel Defense offset -- ![]() FAB Defense offset --

You have several options that can mount at 6 o'clock: Various basic 1" ring mounts - pic 1 / pic 2 Vltor mount - pic 1 / pic 2 Surefire mount - pic 1 / pic 2 |
