The battery magazine for this light holds six batteries.  Why does my voltmeter only show 9.3 volts of output?  Why do I get more light from the 9 volts from this battery magazine than I do from the9 volt, 3 battery magazine from my M500A?

Hmm. The MB20 is two parallel sets of three-SF123A batteries in series so it is a "9V" battery pack without any load.

When powering the MN20 and MN21 lamps the MB20 battery pack is under considerable load so the voltage sags. The voltage when powering the MN20 is about 7.2 Volts with a current draw of about 2.45 Amps so the bulb is about 17-18 Watts. The voltage when powering the MN21 is about 6.1 Volts with a current draw of about 4.9 Amps so the bulb is about 29-30 Watts.

Using a multimeter you can find the correct positions so that the carrier holds three SF123A batteries in series with the result that you can run the "M3T" (MN15/MN16) lamps in the M6.
I have heard that some people put electrical tape over the contacts of another three SF123A batteries and fill up the MB20 carrier so they carry a spare set of batteries for the MN15/MN16 inside the M6 itself. Something makes me cautious about doing this myself though...

Cool... I learned something here.

Thanks for the clarification Size15's - I was looking at the MB20 wrong.
