I just sold my old M500 without the LEDs and picked up a new M500A-WH.  When I tried to install it I noticed that the two handguards don't quite fit together.  The rear part has a pretty significant gap in it, maybe 1/8".  It's almost like the bottom handguard is warped, because if you push it down to fit in the rear the front has a gap and vice versa.

I called Surefire and their Tech Support guy seemed to be saying that's how they're supposed to fit.  But I know my old set didn't fit like that.

Has anyone else run into this?

You sure it's new. Sounds like it got overheated.

It was a dealer demo that the dealer described being "shined around the shop a little", so I assumed it had never been on a gun that was fired.

It happens all the time with the M500's.  Just set it on a nice hard surface like a countertop with a towel underneath it (before you do this remove the bulb assembly).  Take a rubber mallet and lightly tap the top of the handgurard down until it seats.  I had to do this with mine and it worked great.  Good luck.

Correct, it just isn't fully seated.

I just installed 3 of these for some local COPS, and had the same problem.
I ended up touching up the plastic CLOSEST to the receiver with a 1" belt sander.  Just lightly polished it and it went together much better.

But yea, we noticed then you held the two pieces together, that it looked WARPED.
I figure after a couple BETA dumps, thinks will melt into place?????

I will ask Andrew at Clyde Armory about it the next time I talk to him.

yeah, it just doesn't look like they need seated, it really does look more like they're warped.  I'll try the seating later today and see if it helps.

After a couple of used ones (which had already been seated and matched up fine when I installed them) I ran into the same thing the first time I bought one NIB.  The advice above is correct.

And don't be embarassed... I had to come here to find out, too.
