I'm currently looking to put a light on my colt AR. I have the stock round handguards, so no rail mounts. I do have a harris bi-pod mounted on the bottom so 6'oclock position  wont work. Its an A-2 version and i have an ADCO red dot mounted on top with a delta cheek piece. So i'm having trouble figureing out a light and mount combination thats not going to cost me an arm and a leg. I'm considering either the insight M3 with universal  piccatinny mount for sight post mounting, or the M3X TACTICAL RIFLE version also on a sight post picatinny mount. Any comments good or bad would be greatly appreciated on either of these two options for me. Also, the Insight M3 i'm thinking would also work on my Sig P226ST with TAC RAIL. Would this be a good light for an AR?,,,,or not hold up on an AR?

The M3X is a good choice for both handgun & rifle applications, I would definetly choose it over the std. ITI M3 because the M3X is a stronger light, has better performance and is adaptable to both Universal & Picatinny specs.

As far as a mount setup is concerned, I would either go with a dual rail FSB mount or the small ITI handguard plate for mounting an M3/M3X -

Is the sight post mount not a good option. And on the picture, it appears you have to drill holes for that peticular mount, correct?

A FSB mount is fine on a carbine but if you have a rifle length sight radius it's a bit of reach.  As for h.guard mount shown above, yes, you'll have to drill two holes in the side of your h.guard to attach it.  There is another option that I'll post pictures of later today that might be of interest to you also.
