I just bought my first Sure Fire Fri from Jim's in Fayetteville.  It was my first time in the shop and they seemed like a good bunch of guys.  The flashlight is a 6P.  The box says it has a one hour runtime and the guys told me it would be 2 hours.  I'm not implying that they're lying or wrong, I'm just genuinely curious about what people have been getting as a average runtime on batteries.  What about the lamp too?  Also, how much is a good price for a replacement tail cap w/ a tape switch?  Thanks for the help.

The run time should be around 70 minutes (give or take). If you want to use it as a weapon light, I would suggest you get a Z32 shock isolated bezel and a Z49 tailcap....

Exactly what Grant said. I think SF tailcaps with the pressure switch run about $80-$90.

So is the standard bezel not able to take the shock being on my AR?  It wont be on FA, just semi.

ETA: Grant, I couldn't find either of those things on your site.

I'm sure it will work for a few rounds but do you really want to take that chance? The anti-shock bezels are  under $20 but another bulb would probably be the same price. Grant has a page in the Industry section with those products.

Grant sells a LOT of things not on his site.  E-mail him or call and talk to Grant or Roxanne.  They will set you up.

Ditto, I think I'm about due to go to his shop and rummage through the stockroom like Slim Hazy and I used to do.

Find the clearence items and scratch and dents!

The only scratch and dent items are the ones you guys drop (on purpose maybe )

Hey, bvmjethead.  Sometime early next week could you visit Grant and accidently drop a LaRue 9.0 rail and one of the new LaRue low-pro gas blocks?  While you're at it, kick around a Troy front flip-up sight.

Finally (to keep the thread on topic), maybe manage to drop a SureFire mount for Gimme_A_Carbine.

Gimme_A_Carbine, what's the primary purpose for this light?  Did you buy it to be a dedicated weapon light?

Do you have a dedicated daily-carry light?  If not, I HIGHLY recommend the E2e.  Awesome light for every day carry.

Like Ken Hackathorn told me in a pistol class, "if you carry a gun, you carry a light."  Most violent encounters occur in low/no light conditions.

That'd be cool.

I bought the light as somewhat of general purpose light, some use on and some use off the weapons.    It was mainly an impulse buy, because the owner of the range I use said "we're going to do a 3-gun match at night soon" so I responded with "looks like I'll need a light."  I didn't want to go all out and buy a purpose designed weapons light (stipend only can be strechted so far).  And for now, I don't actually need a light to carry with me when I carry(since I dont), because in NC the  law is 21, and 19 is a ways away from 21.  I really appreciate all the help guys.

I actually have another question.  Since I'll be getting a z32 bezel, will that be able to withstand use on a shotgun?  It obviously wont be mounted  to my pistol, so I'm not worried about that.  Thanks.

A shotgun?  Wow, I don't know.  A dedicated weapon light has a rim around the area where the batteries meet the bulb to keep the batteries from battering the bulb.  In other words, it's a shock isolated battery stick.

I'm not sure if your light will stand up to a LOT of shotgun abuse.  Grant, any clue?

I would look at maybe an LED light for you shotgun. I would be concerned about a standard SF handheld withstanding the recoil of a shotgun..

Does that mean a seperate LED bezel, or a dedicated shotgun light.  I'm not trying to be cheap and buy low quality or anything, I just can't afford to spend 600 bones on Surefire stuff, so I'm trying to find the route of compromise.
