Bright Flashlights fixed me up with a G2, mini-rail, & scope-ring type set-up (super guy to deal with too). Now the question is.... What's the favorite position to mount it? I'm a righty with a Bushy AR, 16" bbl, std. short handguards, and I don't want a vertical grip (yet). Starting off with the original G2 tailcap but open to ideas gained from your personal experience. Any suggestions? I'm sweating putting it at 10:30 and blocking vision. Steve |
| Thanks for replying guys and taking time to post pictures too. Great ARs. I was thinking 10:30 would probably be easiest since I could use with my thumb but that didn't seem to work out for QUIB. Thanks for the heads-up. Seems like ejector-side and index finger works for Calvert 1. Appreciate knowing that's not a problem. I'm still wondering about 6:00 too though and surprised nobody has responded that uses that position. Anyone? |
I made this mount from some nylon I found at work. It's the only piece we had and it was destroyed trying to remove it from the HG's. I used locktite on the threaded inserts and could not get the bolts out, had to drill off the heads. At least I know it would have never loosened up on me! From the sling set up you have, I would be looking at a FSB type rail mount or the original barrel type clamp mount from Surfire. Then it's just a matter of running a pressure switch back to the HG's! One note on my old set up: With the light being at the 9-9:30 position I found it sometimes got in the way of my 3 point sling. A 3:00 position or barrel mount might work better. |
Thats about what I have it boiled down to. Unless something better comes up Thanks |

More thanks y'all. From my perspective QUIB really pointed out something important when he said With the light being at the 9-9:30 position I found it sometimes got in the way of my 3 point sling. I hadn't thought of that and come Sep 14th, I'm adding a Colt type front sling mount to go with the VLTOR. I'm a bit surprised that 1:30 - 4:30 area works well and appreciate Calvert1 and CeeDub telling us that it does. However, except maybe CockedandLocked (Thats about what I have it boiled down to. Unless something better comes up) when Calvert1 mentioned FSB rail or barrel clamp, I still don't understand why nobody has really had anything to say about 6:00. I would have thought lots of folks tried mounting a light there with standard handguards and no vertical grip. Maybe it is my poor skills and willingness to move my left hand forward a bit when required. |
| I have my light mounted at the six o'clock position. It is not a G2, it is a scorpion in a fobus light mount. The light is mounted on a rail in front of the vert. grip. I like it A LOT!!! Alll I have to do is activate the light with the middle knuckle on my index finger while keeping a firm hold on the vert grip. Works very well. |

Before I had purchased a dedicated Surefire Foreend I used to use the 6 O'clock - (heck still that way on the Shotgun forearm from Surefire ) Advantages are no shadow except on ceiling - disadvantages is it can get caught up in a sling more often. - I would say it's a good position in many respects as M900 put's it there and any after market rails mounted to bottom of handguard put it there (Fobus etc) . |
| I've got a G2 setup mounted at the 6 o'clock pos. on a Daniel Defense 9.5 FSP rail system. Love it. I have the same setup mounted at the 3 o'clock pos. on a DD 7.0 rail system only because there is not enough room to mount it at 6 o'clock. Both are okay, but I like 6 o'clock better. It just feels more out of the way, if ya know what I mean. |
