Check out the new angle mounts that YHM has up on their page. Looks like the 5 slot will give me a good platform for my light. Talked to Paul at yhm yesterday and he thought there should be some 5 slots in stock by late next week. secure.valinet.com/~yankeeh/cgi-bin/web_store/web_store.cgi?page=rails.html&&cart_id=764620_12765 |

I keep trying to get a good picture of how the mount positions the light for the thumb. I have the single mount, fobus and G2. http://home.comcast.net/~gunlubber/YHVMG2a.jpg |

Received my new 5 slot angle riser on friday. Very happy with the fit and I really like the extra platform length. http://www.valinet.com/~chrisjg/IMG_1949.jpg http://www.valinet.com/~chrisjg/IMG_1946.jpg |

Just installed on on my Bushy Modular with a Surefire Classic 650. I wanted to mount the light on the side rail instead of the bottom and it sits too high when it is directly on the side rail. The angle mount allowed me to mount it lower on the side. I am using the Z49 push button on/off momentary tail cap switch so I wanted my light positioned low enough so that I don't have to change my grip on the vertical fore grip. I just move my thumb the slightest amount to push the button and the light is on. The single rail was the perfect size for my application. They come in one, three or five rails. I also got the large thumb screw for $4.00 extra. I can now take the light on and off the rails without an allen wrench. Try one, I am sure you will like it. MadDog

| I use the five slot version with a SF M962 with Z49 tailcap and a TD foregrip. It is the perfect setup, IMHO. The five slot is also the best one to use with the throw lever mount as it covers almost the entire base. It's also the easiest way to use a click tailcap and a TD grip, at least for me. |
All three are funcionally the same. The push buttons are also dimensionally the same. The only reason to use the Z48 over the Z49 would be the color match with the MU series lights. The only reason to use the SW02 over those would be the flanges on the side of the SW cap make it easier and faster to remove if need be (plus the cool factor of it being the SpecWar cap, if that appeals to the user). The Z48/Z49 caps can also be used with KAC rail covers, whereas the flanges on the SW02 make it too large to do so, but I guess you don't have to worry about that in GB. If you are using it on a handheld light, the flanges might also be an extra feature to prevent slippage. |

"The Z48/Z49 caps can also be used with KAC rail covers, whereas the flanges on the SW02 make it too large to do so..." That is a very good reason to go for the Z48 rather than the SW02. I tend to remove the rubber shrouds from these TailCaps for flashlight use. Therefore the Z58 (as featured on the L5 and L6) is a better option for me. There is nothing wrong with your choice (you could be harvesting parts or tried it out and kept it - that's one of the great things about SureFire - interchangeability). It's very easy to get the SureFire parts codes mixed up or tpyo them (been there, done that!). Thanks for your reply. Al |
| No problem Al. Someone suggested I try the Z48/Z49 and I ended up preferring it over the SW cap I had been using. Everyone seems to be pushing the SW02 because it is newer than the Z48, plus the SpecWar appeal, and people seem to be overlookking the fact that it is the same cap minus the flanges. I only used a Z49 becasue the Z48 was out of stock at most places for awhile. I have since gotten a couple more Z48s just for the color match. I use several different types of rail covers on a number of rail systems and wanted to be able to switch any of my lights onto any of the rifles and not have to worry about whether or not they would fit on a rifle with the KAC covers. I saw no real advantages to the SW02, for me at least, and switched over. Other's MMV. |
Not everyone! I can't tell you how much it bothered me to here the "Dev Gru" talk; as stated the only differences are the larger knurling & another $20 out of your pocket. I certainly don't fault those who needed the larger knurling (easier for gloved hands) or wanted the cooler look I just hated the insinuation that it was better than everything else. |
