Hello, I am expecting getting a L80 Visible green laser when it is released. My question is, what would be the best mount to go with. I will be using a SIR rail, and the bottom will be taken by the Vertical foregrip M900AB. Would there be any benefit to using the larger 9 and 12 volt bodies? There has been a lot of speculation about how bright the laser will be. I've been lead to believe that the beam is actually visible, like a light saber off into infinity. Is this true? Will this show up during the day? Even small laser pens are visible when large amounts of particulate matter is in the air, I am to presume this laser doesn't require such? Has anyone heard anything about a release date? Thanks, -Steve |
| I am also eagerly awailing the L80 To bad they have been saying it will come out anytime for over a year. I will be eagerly awaiting the answers to your mounting questions. I also am curios if the arms mount will be as stable as the thumb screw models. I guess I will have to go with a constant on off switch as I don't have room for another preasure switch. |

The SureFire Lasers Modules L72, L75 & L80 are powered by one 6V SF223A (or two 3V SF123A) batteries. Perhaps the best housing to mount a Laser Module is on a Millennium Universal Body Housing (MH90). See this thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=141354 To convert an MU Series model to a Laser, swap the Lamp Module for the Laser Module. The LU15 & LU20 increase the MH90 so it can hold an SF323A or SF423A battery stick. The Laser Modules are powered by an SF223A battery which the MH90 holds and the Laser Module screws on to. I have a non-pulsed <5mW 532nm Class IIIa Green Laser pointer. It's bright. Very bright. At night, you can see the beam very easily when you look down it. SureFire's L80 I saw at the SHOT Show 2002 is a whole other level. Again, it's non-pulsed, 5mW 532nm Class IIIa Green Laser. The 5mW is the output once the light leaves the module, so it's a 'true' 5mW output. The lenses and focusing of SureFire Lasers give you a very clean precise dot. My green Laser has scattering similar to other Laser pointers I've seen. This wasn't the case of the L80 though - In fact, I was so impressed with the L80 that I may end up getting one just for fun. AL'S RIGHT WITH RESPECT TO THE MH90 MLLENNIUM HOUSING. KEEP IN MIND THAT WITH IT YOU ALSO NEED A MOUNT: M49 DUAL THUMB SCREW LEVER MOUNT ...OR... M50 SWAN THROW LEVER MOUNT AND YOU'LL NEED A SWITCH. LASERS CANNOT HAVE "CONSTANT ON" SWITCHES BY F.D.A. REGS, SO THE NEW "C-SWITCH" IS OUT. YOUR CHOICES ARE: SUXX TAIL CAP WITH PRESSURE PAD SWITCH ("XX" REFERS TO CABLE LENGTH IN INCHES) ...OR... SW01 MOMENTARY PUSH-BUTTON SWITCH, I.E., "P"-SWITCH WES GRANT MSTN.BIZ |

SureFire Dealers like Wes who know what they are talking about will be able to sort you out with a complete package based on your requirements. I'll give you an example (similar to the MH90 not coming with any mounting option) Many people want a choice of either the E1e or E2e bodies to attach their KL1 Luxeon Bezel to. So they buy an E2e-HA, and the E1e-HA body only. Because they'll just transfer the LockOut TailCap from the E2e body when they want to use the E1e body. The thing is, ordering an E1e-HA body only means you don't get the two o-ring or the little black ring thingey that stops the Bezel o-ring from escaping into the PocketClip Attachment point. Imagine how you'd feel if you had just bought the two bodies are raw parts, a Z52 (HA) LockOut TailCap and a KL1. No o-rings! I am not aware of a code specifically for the L72 Laser Module attached to MU Series model. There should be codes. Al |

I quote from page 55 of the SureFire WeaponLight 'bible': "Infrared lasers can only be used with momentary-on switches. Use of constant-on switches are not allowed by Federal Regulations. Furthermore, infrared lasers can only be delivered to law enforcement or military units." Respectfully, Al |
