Have a Magpul MOE SL (MAG538) handguard. Trying to install the polymer M-LOK Cantilever Rail/Light Mount. I've read the instructions and viewed a couple of YouTube videos, but...
The T-nuts seem to rotate properly, i.e., they snug in place at a quarter-turn. But, with not much effort, I can get them to go another quarter turn for release. An indication to me that they're tight enough is peeling off some plastic from the hand-guard. But, while the T-nut seems snug, the light mount will slide horizontally around the two bolts as in the bolt holes are a bit wider diameter than the bolts (I'm using the bigger of the two different size bolts included). The instructions talk about tightening the bolts after they lock in place. If I try and do that, the bolt rotates. Obviously not locked in place, but the nut is actually sitting tighter than shown in the instructions (after gradually trying at looser positions). Instructions say, to remove, simply loosen the accessory mounting screws one full turn and the T-Nuts should loosen and align with the slot to be easily removed. Mine can be removed with a quarter turn in either direction. More from the instructions: • When nuts are spaced too far then the nut will rotate freely without stopping and tightening. • In this case the nut will have to be screwed in closer to the bottom of the accessory. Simply remove the accessory from the slot and screw the nut on one full turn. Repeat as necessary so that the cam engages the slot when the screw is tightened. • If the nut is spaced too close to the accessory, then the “wings” of the nut will contact the sides of the slot and the nut will not rotate into place. This will cause the nut to tighten against the accessory lugs without engaging the hand guard. • In this case the nut should be unscrewed until it is spaced far enough away from the lugs to allow it to rotate properly into position. Unscrew the nut one turn at a time and retest function. Thanks. |

IMHO, T-nuts are a PITA. You have to pre tighten them just right before installing (they must be loose enough to insert into slot and turn, but tight enough to engage the stop. This takes a few trials, as slot thickness varies per hand guard). Once you finally get it right, they do install/uninstall easily... just takes that bit of patience to get it set up.
