| Hey all, I have a MI keymod handguard with the MI handstop/rail cover set. I like these covers but have a difficult time getting them on... Seems like is the screw was just a little bit longer it would be a whole lot easer to get these suckers on. I am considering a hardware store stop. Has anyone done this? Replace the nut/bolt on their keymod? I have the MI rail section that came with the handguard and that is easy to get on. I attribute that mostly to the fact that its metal. I am in the market for some more rail covers. I am weary of the Novenski (spelling?) because it its apparently difficult to install, the MI's are supposedly the easier of the two and I have trouble with those... Anyone have experience with the Bravo, KAC or any other manufactures rail covers for KM? Any info would be great. I have also seen Airsoft makers in China that sell KM rail covers... any thoughts? | Hmmm, I seemed to encounter a bit of an issue seating my mi covers but once I unscrewed it as far as possible and held the heads down it wasn't too difficult. Also make sure the keymod nuts are facing the proper direction. The keymod nut is a proprietary piece so aside from maybe a longer bolt there is nothing the hardware store would have that would work to replace it. Keep in mind a longer bolt will also run the risk of hitting the gas block or even barrel considering how narrow the mi rail is. I've been keeping an eye on these bad ass rail covers also. Waiting for the short ones to come out. They are pricey but made from g10 and real svelte. Www.getrailscales.com |

those do look nasty indeed. I will be interested to hear how they are when you get them. Thanks for the info on the MI covers, i have followed your instructions with some success.... its a tedious process involving lots of looking for the fallen nut when trying to get it as loose as possible. One is MIA at the moment. BCM sells them. Any experience with BCM or KAC's covers? BCM is hard to find.

| Heh yeah I had to get a few of the bcm keymod nuts myself for lost ones. The bcm rail covers however aren't available for purchase ( despite being on the site for months). Bcm puts stuff on their site a while before release and in the case of their rail covers they decided to completely redesign them in the last phase of development. From what I've heard they won't be available for months still. I stumbled across the rail scales on jerkingthetrigger.com. Haven't seen anything else on them tho. Really you got only got noveske, mi, kac, and rail scales at the moment. I too think the mi covers are the best but they are certainly frustrating to install. They should consider flaring the end of the bolt like bcm does with their rail panels so the nut cannot come off and stops at the end of its length. But they're cheap so whatever. The BCM nuts are larger than MI. Ask MI for replacements.
I found the MI can be a little bit of a challenge. Just have to loosen to a thread and spin both nut and bolt in the direction you need. The noveske covers are actually really easy if you know how. Easier than MI if you ask me. |

If i was going to buy some myself, Id buy the ones that fit. Youd only be a couple bucks from a whole new panel from MI.. or you could ask them yourself. I dont lose parts ever since i started keeping a magnet in the shop. |

The shavings at the screw driver is actually from a screw. This piece was my guinea pig on safe removal. Here is what i discovered! I used a fine threaded screw in attempt to raise the tabs. Didnt work but on the right track. I switched to a coarse drywall screw and moved to the middle of the tab slot. Only had to screw in a tiny bit and they lifted well out of the way. Slid right off with zero rail scratches. |
| I got some KAC covers from BCM last week. After a considerable amount of time spend trying to get them using methods mentioned above, and melting one in the microwave (good thing it comes with 7) I was unable to get all six connections in at once. I found that three was manageable but not easy, so I cut them in half, making the cuts around the wrench shaped segment in the middle where the least amount of plastic is. I got them on pretty easily. They are sturdy, have shot about 300 rounds with them on and they have not moved at all. They look great, cant see the cuts unless you look for them and even then they are small and barley noticeable. Verdict is I am happy with the KAC covers. |
