Hi,

I have a few questions about the sling/attachment options.

1) I am selecting a sling and I was wondering what is a good option to create a single-point attachment without removal of the buffer tube. I saw a few options on line but I also read that some of those will not fit snugly on the "civilian" buffer tube - whatever it means, this is my first AR and I don't know much about it. Ideally, I am looking for a "clamp-on" kind of thing.

2) If and when I want to use two-point option - do I need a gunsmith to remove the factory under-the FSB loop and to install the one that allows a "side" attachment - I really like to have my light under the fore grip and thefactory loop is kinda in the way. I can also use a rail attachment for the front point, so it is more about removing the stock loop than installing a new one instead.

Thanks in advance!

You can drill out the head of the rivet in the front sling mount.   It'll come right out.   Ive heard some people crush them but Ive always drilled.  After that a front side sling mount can be installed.  Something like a ggg sling thing or Colt side sling mount can be out on.   If you have a railed hand guard there are way more options for a side sling mount.

I recently spent way too much time looking at the options...and finally decided that the Tactical Link Z-360 was the best for me:

Tactical Link Z-360

Here it is with my MS3 (one QD and one standard Paraclip):

Links to others that I considered:

Midwest Industries MCTAR-30
Daniel Defense EZ Carbine Mount
GG&G Agency Rear Sling Adapter
Troy Industries Professional Grade Rifle Receiver Sling Adapter
Tango Down PR-4 Rear Sling Mount

With the exception of the GG&G, all six are ambidextrous, but most of them are ambidextrous because they have a connector on both sides of the collar. Of the six options, only the Tactical Link and Tango Down have a rear facing QD mount (Tango Down also has two side mounts).

I prefer rear-facing so the QD release button is not banging into my chest and potentially getting tripped by my gear.  I went with the Z-360 because I liked the downward angle of the connection, the stainless steel connection point, and the price.  Bonus points - the Z-360 collar comes in a wide range of colors. Most of the others only come in black...and their black often looks grey.

Regardless of which one you choose, if you go this route you will no longer be able to fully collapse your stock. Whether or not that is an issue is personal preference. Do you use your AR with the stock fully collapsed (perhaps when wearing gear) or do you just collapse for storage/transport? The 6920 only has a four-position buffer tube, so you are losing one of those four.  That's not a big deal to me, but could be for others.  For folks who have a six-position buffer tube, losing the shortest is usually not a big deal.

This is where someone says just unstake your castle nut.

For your front connection, what kind of handguard or rail do you have?  I have two clip connection options up front - the standard sling swivel and an MSA side-mounted on the MOE guard.  They also have an RSA for a rail mount.

If your sling has hook style hardware instead of QD swivels, then look at the MAD Hook Up.  It works with both milspec and commercial buffer tubes.

Tactical Link Z-360 all the way. Here are a few on my Colts.
