I saw a Magpul UBR at my local gun shop and am thinking of trying it out.  I am a little concerned about its weight and am looking for any input good or bad.  I am hoping someone here has some experience with one of these.

Please advise,

Eric

Benchrest yes, field stock maybe. It's really heavy.

Strongest collapsible stock you can buy. Only downside is the weight.

They are great stocks but they are very heavy for field gun. Another thing if your a bigger person it can be a little uncomfortable if your cheek rest's half on the stock and half in the extension gap.

Yep.

That said, weight is subjective.  If you're sticking it on a 14.5 pencil barrel plain A1 setup, then yes, it's very heavy.
If your upper is a 20" with a rail, a 500 lumen SF light, a VFG, a laser, and a 6x20 scope, then only slightly heavy.

IIRC, UBR is about 12 oz heavier than a reg collapsable.

There are multiple sets of thread holes under the cheek peice. You can actually move the cheek piece further to the rear and screw her back in resolving that issue.

I ran mine for a while. Works great.

I love my UBR. She is a little heavy but without it my rifle is extremely front heavy and it does a great job at creating balance and taking some of the weight off the support hand.

IMO one of the better stocks available today...

Although the weight is the major downfall which is also why I got rid of mine.

I'd like to see a fixed carbine length version of it. Exact overall shape and aesthetics including the compartment. It could be made tons lighter without all the metal for the locking mechanism. That being said I chose the ubr for its weight to balance out my rifle. It is also the most sturdy adjustable stock i've ever put my hands on.

I decided to try it out.  I just finished putting it on my gun. I had to buy a $40 dollar tool but i am sure it will come in handy again.

$40 tool for what? To get the old castle nut off? The UBR doesnt need any sort of special tools at all.

+1. The gap leaves no cheek weld in the middle to full open positions.

I needed to get a good AR tool because I didn't have one to take the old stock off.  I don't think I needed one quite as nice but the local gun store had it and I wanted to get the stock changed out right away.

The gap when the stock is wide open doesn't really bother me because when using my optics my eye has to be so close I don't need to open it past 3.

I love my UBR. It balances out my SPR style rifle much better than a lightweight stock like the CTR.

The weight is close to the body, so it's not as bad as adding all that weight at the very end of the muzzle like a suppressor does.
