Hi guys. I have my scope narrowed down to the Vortex Strikefire. Now the wrench in the works is Red/Green vs. Red ONLY. Everyone is saying the Red only is brighter than the Red/Green. Others say the Red Only is too bright in a bad way. Does anyone know the truth about these two scopes?
Does anyone even need the highest setting on there Red/Green model? |

Had my bright red for 2+ years so my comparison may be dated.
Bright red was my choice. Why: More efficient emitter = estimated runtime >3500 hours at the lower settings I'm able to run it at the lower settings in bright sun - rarely do I need to turn it up above 3 or 4 I have no use for a green dot I run at the lowest level that still gives me an eye-catching dot - reduces bloom At least on my two, the bright red gives plenty of downside room - I run at level 2, and level one is significantly dimmer to my eye - in no way do I find either too bright YMMV |

I have a red/green and it plenty bright. To me the glass coating is better on the r/g. Doesn't tint everything. Edit: I'll post a pic tomorrow for you on the highest setting.. I'll add that I found the red/green to be plenty bright. I don't recall thinking about the coatings/tint when I compared them, but there is a slight tint in the glass on mine. For me it came down to runtime - likely doesn't matter, but Bright has 33% longer runtime than the R/G, unless you run the R/G in Green, in which case the BR has 5% longer average runtime. I have both. In bright sun the red/green dot isnt quite bright enough. I use the green at the highest setting because it seems a little brighter than the red on the red/green version.
The red dot only version is plenty bright in the sun, and even the lowest setting is a little too bright in an indoor range. |

I actually just like the look of a green dot but if it was going to cause me to sacrifice quality than I wasn't going to get that one. The longer run time on the Bright Red make me want to lean towards it' so I gotta think here. |
