Hi guys, I'm an AR newbie so please bear with me. Is there any reason not to use the Magpul MS3 sling on a standard Ruger SR556? Looking at the ring on the stock (http://www.ruger.com/products/sr556Standard/images/5902.jpg) would would there be a better single point sling for that location?

the ring on the toe of the stock.  the standard sling loop?  if so, it might work, but it won't hang correctly

Best way to go imo for the sr-556 assuming you are set on getting a MS3 would be to put a different stock on the rifle that has a QD spot.

Or get a separate qd mount for stock or buffer tube

this would work also, check to see if your buffer tube castle nut is staked.

What would be a better sling option for the default SR556 setup?

there really isn't a good option in stock form.  You'll need to find an adaptor with whatever sling you choose.

So for instance, get the Magpul ASAP and use the MS3?

that would do nicely.  You'll still need something up front to get full capability out of the ms3
