Any you guys recommend? I usually don't use them because it bumps into my stock so I'm looking for some smaller/skinnier models. Thanks

Is the 22db reduction rating a little low for indoor use?

If I'm inside I double up with some surefire sonic defenders under them.

I just got a set of those and I do really like them but the 22db rating doesn't seem like its helping all that much. I have always used good in ear foam plugs which are usually around 33 or so and I know that is a pretty big difference. They are fine for pistols outside but for big stuff or indoors I would recommend going with some other plugs along with these. You can turn the volume up so that it will help you hear around the other plugs some so they are still useful. Great for training.

I've got a set of Peltor 6-S that I like a lot.  Also used a cheapy 25 dollar set of "Winchester" branded one from Wal-Mart and they worked well also but are a bit more bulky.

I use the Howard Leight as well:

I double up with a set of foam plugs as well.  Did stupid things producing loud noises as a kid, and spent a few decades around printing presses.  I'm trying to preserve what hearing I have left.  The thickness is manageable, but they still require me to adjust my cheek weld somewhat.

I have never used mine indoors so I am not sure but outdoors I have used them with everything f from my 10/22 to my Mosin with no issues.  I am very careful with my hearing since I did/do a lot of work with gas powered tools and I will never use one without protection and these work just fine for me.  I also of course love the fact that you can carry on a conversation without having to take them off every time someone wants to speak to me.

I have the Impact Sports as well as an older Peltor Swat-Tac model.  They are both fine outdoors unless you are next to a guy running a brake.  Indoors I almost always double up with Sonic defenders with the ear port open.  But if I am the only shooter indoors I don't need to double up.

Not sure if they are still on sale, but I think it was Amazon who had peltor 6s's for 35.30 shipped. At that price they are worth a try. I have some MSA sordins which I freaking love, however they were two hundred some bucks if I remember correctly.

ETA

I always double up on ear pro. Those surefires are great, but more often I just shove in a pair of foam ones

I just bought two pairs of Peltors for my nephews for 35 bucks a pair.  They said 50 but when you went to check out they took 15 more dollars off per set.  It was on Amazon.com there was a link here yesterday.

Yes....double up inside....I even do it outdoors.

I use these. They are as good as you get before jumping to the $200+ range. But I always double up...

Good foam ear plugs do 30dB reduction...the hearing microphones in the HLs is just to help me hear.  One day I will own $350 Pro Ears that do 30dB on their own.

Personally if you are going to shoot with a 4-year-old I would say stay away from electronic.  I would use the strongest ear pro you can get to protect a child's hearing.  The last thing you want to do is have a child's hearing get damaged at 4.

Copy that.  I have been doing the plugs under reg. muffs, but she is trying to talk to me and i have to almost yell so she can hear me.  Wish they could come out with a electronic 40db that worked well.

Like I said...plugs under HL electronics can help with that. Good protection...amplified talking.

I have a set of the impact/leight green ones. They've lasted about 2 years, and are starting to fail.

Mind you, I do shoot MGs and .50 BMG, so maybe they aren't rated for that sort of stuff.

I don't know if it's the increased noise but moisture can be a factor. I was told to let mine air out every time I got done with them.

Any specific models?  Any experience with them?  Do they come with the boom mic. or do you have to buy it separately?

I know the Leights have a headphone jack.  I have only used it to plug in an IPOD and it works I am not sure about a mic.

I just got a pair of howard impact sports for christmas and so far have liked them. My buddy has had same pair for about 8 months and is developing a slight static or sound drop every now and then but has not sent them in yet.

One thing I didn't like was the cord going to each ear muff was fed under the wire part and keeping the bottom portion from sealing up around my ears so I popped them off and ran the cord over or to the outside which fixed my problem. If that makes sense.

Just picked up a set and so far I'm impressed. Only test I could perform was letting my bolt slam shut on my AR. With the headphones on and the bolt slamming shut 2 inches from my ear I could only hear a light thud sound. Talking with them on was pleasant and I could hear my wife whispering "your a dumb ass" from 10ft away
