i have a 5.11 36" single rifle, and 42" double rifle bag.  good pockets, molle webbing, optional/removable backpack type straps, and the bags feel quite rugged like they wont fall apart after just a few uses.  many trips back and forth to range and mine are still holding up great.

i use Uncle Mikes soft cases for both of my AR's. i bought one with 3 mag pockets for $32 and another with 5 mag pockets for $35. theyre cheap but theyre tough. they also don't have an unnecessary or pointless pockets. also have sturdy zippers.

Can you cut any deal, seeing as I just ordered a lower??

By the way AWESOME customer service! Diana has been putting up with my crap for a few weeks now, and every time I call she is extremely helpful. Thanks for the kick ass service!

I like the LaRue case, but I don't think I'd wanna break the rifle down every time I went to the range.  This is why I bought the Eagle case.

Yeah i like the way it looks and how compact it would be but I agree. Breaking down the rifle every time would suck.

this.

I have one each of the 5.11 Tactical 36" and 42" case.  Both are singles, the 36" for my carbine, and the 42" for my Remington 870 shotgun.  They work great, good storage with the front compartment for mags/pistols/etc.  The molle on the front I've added Tactical Tailor AR and single stack pistol mag pouches.

I got the 36" for $75 when they were having that big 25% sale on all 5.11 gear.  The 42" came from LA Police Gear and was $89 normally priced.

I've seen the Condor tactical stuff up close and while the 5.11 is still made overseas it's a step above in quality.

Just picked up the Optics Planet OPMOD case the other day.  Pretty nice case - lots of molle straps for extra gear.

C3 Case

I've had a c3 for years, while compact, it's a huge pain in the ass to use. It would have been better designed with a zipper that went around the perimeter and allowed the case to clam shell. The accessory pouches and mag pouches are pretty useless ( they are small and hard to insert mags into).  If you're using an upper than is longer than 16 inches it will stick out of the case and prevent you from fully closing it properly.  I found a good replacement with the Larue covert case though. It's small and compact just like the C3 but the interior is 100x more thought out and user friendly.

As DCS12345 pointed out - THIS....

Closed cell padding all around
Rain fly around the zipper
Will hold rifles and mags /ammo
Molle sttraps
Shoulder Strap

.....affordable and good quality

I agree - I have two...
Rifle sits in pocket and is also secured by velcro straps
Thick high density foam padding
rain fly under zipper
Has padded pockets under main compartment for two pistols
shoulder strap
Pouches on front are nice - carry ammo .. main one is big enough to hold full size ear protection

....awesome product for the money

It doesnt have to be fancy or enpensive - it just has to carry/protect my rifle

Pushing two pins isn't that bad.

I have the Midway, and you get what you pay for. I made the mistake of inserting my rifle without opening the case all the way and my light mount tore the inside of the case.

I have a Bulldog case that I have had for years.  It is only used to go to go between tool room, truck and indoor range.  I would not really trust it to protect the weapon from anything other than scratches.  Any other time I use my storm case.
I am looking for a larger bag that can accommodate my AR and my Shotgun.  In addition to my range bag (PPE, ammo, pistol, mags). Each weapon system has a small support bag so I do not really need a  bunch of pockets and webbing.  I would like something that could easily pass for a guitar case or gig bag..

+2

I have the 36" double and it's great! I've added a quad mag pouch on one side and a gas mask bag on the other to hold 2 sets of ear pro'. I think I got the bag for like $50 on sale from LAPG a while back. Excellent build quality and gets used all the time!

I also have a 36" maxpedition which holds a carbine and SBR but lacks other storage. It's also a very well made case.

I've tried some of the cheaper (read: $30 leapers) cases and while they work fine, once you handle a 5.11 or maxpedition you'll quickly throw it to the back of the stack.

I have the Midway job and it is a decent case for the money. But I wish I would have purchased the Spikes case when I ordered my complete middy rifle from them. My rifles are seldom in the case, they are either in the safe, or in various places in my house. I don't think I have ever used the Midway case, come to think of it.  Should have spent the $$ on ammo instead, lol!!!

I have the spikes tactical bag and I love it besides the fact there are only two straps to hold your gun and none to hold extra mags, scope, light, etc... They don't offer any either.. Guess I'll need to make my own..

Ive been happy with my cheap voodoo. holds both my AR and Sig plus 2 hand guns and currently have like 8-9 PMags/BDM mags, plus a few pistol mags, with room for more of each. I've carried it on a few hikes to the range with out issues. I'm sure there are better, more expensive ones but for a trip or two to the range every other week it works for me.

I just got my voodoo bag yesterday from Sportsmans guide. Its 36" I believe and it has a shoulder strap and straps to carry it like a backpack. Mine is the acu digital and it seems to be a very nice case, especially for 49.95 edit-I just looked at it and it has 3 different straps it came with and it looks like they can be joined up to form a shoulder strap- edit again- Yes one of them is indeed a shoulder strap and the other set is to carry it like a backpack

I like the Larue covert case for a takedown case, it doesn't stand out too much.

BullDog brand.  25-30$ at shows and other vendors.  Holds a CAR-15 compressed with four mags outside.  Quite convenient.  Holds S&W AR15-22's very nicely also.

Good enough is the enemy of better.  There are better, but they don't do any more.

Anyone have experience with any of these:

Safariland 4552
Boyt Tac550

Would like to get some input as can't decide to go with the 5.11 or any of the cheaper alternatives.  Unfortunately, the 5.11 36" has been discontinued.

This looks similar to the Condor Tactical bag I saw at a gun show,
except the the 3 pouches on the front were a removable molle system.

I hear mixed opinions about condor products?
anyone have any experience with this particular bag?

I have two of the Condor cases and I've been happy with them a black and an OD. Tons of straps, pockets and molle attachment points. I think they're knockoffs of the Condor case (?), but they're well-made and padded all around. On top of that, they're cheap at Cheaperthandirt.

ETA - I don't see them on the CTD website any more (?)

I have to make a comment about the voodoo cases from Midway. Ive had mine for a while now and Ill say to buy something better. Now YMMV as I actually USE my case, not just taking it to the apt to the car, to the range, but Im also not in battle or anything. I used to have 2 ak's and a 10/22, 5 ti25 mags for the 10/22 (which are very light), 3-5 ak mags. One of the sholder strap D-ring stiching broke one day. It sucked pretty bad since I was in the woods and not close to the car... This also happened to a friend of mine as well on top of the zipper messing up. Now in my case, I dont feel that 2 ak's and a 10/22 with mags was too heavy for it... That is one thing I loved with the voodoo is I carried it like a backpack and both my hands were free.
