Can anyone recommend a good sling for a rifle length AR-15 to us while hunting?

Thanks,

I love the 2/3 point slings.. that allows you to carry the gun across your front in a ready position.. but also allows you to let it drop to your side if needed..

I do not like the standard issue slings.. very difficult to get it down if you try to shoot in a hurry

just my thoughs

The troy 2 point is not bad, the best I've found so far, but I am still looking for a better one. Going for the VTAC next.

VTAC is the way to go! IMO

Wide choice of colors, mounting options and easy adjustment. I have a home made one on my lever action and on my AR. Saving the one bought for duty use.

I'll jump in with my vote for the Vickers, VCAS.  The VTAC and VCAS basically accomplish the same thing but function differently.  I prefer the VCAS.  I think the material is softer and better quality and I like the AA slider better than the chunck of metal the on VTAC.

Either one will allow you to adjust and carry basically any way you can imagine.

I have the VTAC on my AR and it is great. I just ordered a VCAS for my hunting rifle. I will let you know how they compare when it arrives.

I failed to mention that the padded VCAS is great on my heavier rifles while I use the unpadded on my light weight stuff.

Also, Vickers (Blue Force Gear) has a 50% off sale on their "camo green" slings right now.  An excellent deal!  It is basically a foliage shade of green.

Thanks for the tip.  Just picked up another VCAS.

Yeah it is only like $26 shipped for the green padded VCAS right now.

Well if you are talking a standard sling using the standard factory sling loops...then I would say the Super Sling ll.  If you take it apart you can feed it trough your factory loops, which you can remove from the rifle any way...well the rear one alot easier...it is fully adjustable and runs about 20 bucks or so....made from heavy duty Nylon.....it is what I first used before I got my Blue Force CAS....

While I think my next sling is gonna be a blaze orange VTAC sling, the Vickers sling is worlds ahead of it as far as I'm concerned. I have both.

I just got the VCAS and it is very nice. Seems more durable than the VTAC. Thicker webbing and better stiching. As far as the function I'm not sure which I like better. I like how the VCAS has no hanging tail, but it also doesn't cinch up quite as tight as the VTAC. For now I would have to say I prefer the VTAC, but I am used to it. I will say that either way you go VTAC or VCAS you are getting an excellent sling. And the half price deal on the VCAS is a no brainer if a green sling is okay with you.

My thinking was basically the same.  I prefered the VCAS but I liked the way I could really cinch up the VTAC so I went to work on my VCAS slings.  The padded one really limits how short you can go because of the length of the pad.  But what I did was shorten the middle section to basically only enough to connect the pad and the adjustable section.  On the rear attachment, I sewed the push button adapter on the end of the sling right up against the pad which again saved me a few inches.  Lastly, I started on the adjustable end.  I cut the loop locks off and removed all the stitching that used to hold them.  I then took a tri-glide and attached it to the front of my rifle.  I actually gained some length in the adjustable portion so I removed it from my rifle and cut a small section of the sling off.  I repeated this a couple of times until I could cinch it down tight or let it out for shooting.  Sorry, no "how to" pics but it is not that complicated.

My unpadded VCAS was easier.  I could shorten the back end since it did not have the padded section.  I once again removed the loop locks and stitching on the front because I liked the lower profile of the tri-glide.  I can now cinch this one down as well for hands free activity and then enlarge for shooting.  It took a good bit of time to find the exact lengths that I needed so I did not cut any material until I was positive I had the lengths correct.

Sorry for the rambling...
