Where can I get a quick release buckle that lets me pull a cord or something to quickly adjust sling length on the fly?

Hmm.

I don't know about upgrading an existing sling, but Larue's sling does exactly what you speak of.

There are a few places out there selling the buckles, sliders, etc, but honestly by the time you spend a buck a piece and shipping you'll be right in the ballpark of just buying a Boonie Packer sling that does what you want.

Here's a link, $15.95 delivered.

You'll be hard pressed to make your own at that price, and it's a quality sling.

edit:  Here's some sources for buckles and whatnot.

I effed around, made a nice sling for myself even - got the Larue as a gift. So nice.
