In another post I saw a comment about attaching the sling to the free float rail to take pressure off the barrel. It makes sense that the advantages of a free float barrel is negated if you use your sling to steady your rifle

Right now I have the usual mount under the front sight post and the side adapter in the same area.

Will a rail sling mount be sturdy? can rails take the abuse of constantly being used in such a manner?

The rifle is a Stag 2T. So the rails are not junk.

Your thoughts please.

I mount my sling to the side of my free float tube.  I use the threaded hole & adaptors from YHM.  It's inexpensive, solid, and works well.  I haven't found a solution I  like better.

I mount my QD rail sling mount all the way to the rear of both my free float and non free float rails so it doesn't affect the barrel much, also the sling doesn't interfere my light and support hand.

I've got a Daniel Defense and KAC QD rail sling mounts but I prefer the DD because of its anti-rotation limiter, it limits the rotation of the QD sling swivels to about approx. 90 degrees to prevent slings from being twisted and tangled.
