Hey,
I am about to purchase a sling for the first time for a M4gery that i built over the summer. I was wanting some help from you guys to help me pick out a sling.
I am think thinking a single point sling. link Here is a gear sector single point sling. I really like this one.
I need to know what to get for it and what accessories to get for the gun to mount it.
Thanks in advance for your help,
-Stephen S

Single point slings such as the Gear Sector are good but I wouldn't get one without trying out a 2 point from Blue Force Gear or Viking Tactics. I used to use a single point but now use only 2 points from those two manufacturers. They are much more comfortable IMO and are more versatile for what I do in L.E. Just a thought. If you really want a 1 point I would also check out Viking Tactics 1 point and Troy's 1 point as well. Both are good gear.

I picked up a Gear Sector single point recently because of the recommendations on this board. The quality was very high and the service was top notch, The dude even emails you to make sure you got it. However, I did not really care for the single point design at all for the way I use a sling. It kept nailing me in the nuts, and I didn't like the muzzle control. So I ordered up a Gear Sector 2 point and couldn't be happier.

Stephen:
Gear Sector is top notch in materials, modularity, selection, and service.  You will not get better service from anyone.
If you want a single point, it is the best I've used.  However, keep in mind the limitations of the single points.  The single point is meant for CQB and vehicle operations really, and is meant to keep a hand on the weapon at all times unless you have a means of securing it.  When it is left hanging while you are moving around it is going to beat on you unless you sweep it to the rear.
As far as accessories, that depends on what you have on your biner.  The sling comes with an accessory adapter that will work with several set ups.  It is best to use some kind of receiver end plate or clamping mount that puts the rear sling point at the rear of the receiver for the right hang height.  From there, it depends on how you want the sling to connect to the biner.  QD, HK hook, or the SRB attachment stubs.

Just a thought: the single point slings don't let you just throw the gun over your shoulder (hasty carry) like the 2-point slings do.  Plus some of the nice 2 point slings, like the SOP Sling from Specter, are really versatile (carry options).  That's my reasoning at least.

What do you plan on using your rifle for that really determines what type of sling you need?.

I run the gear sector slings, that have a 2pt sling also. I primarily use the single points.

I would get a rear reciever sling plate and the sling and you should be gtg with the sling.

There is ONLY one advantage for a single point sling over a 2 point.  You cant point your rifle out a car window when seated normally with a 2 point sling.  Then again if you put a second QD point further back on your weapon you could use a 2 point as a 1 point in that scenario.  Id highly suggest anyone who wants a single point to try a 2 point first.... try running with both when not holding your weapon.

Thanks all for the advice and comments.

I have a stag arms 2-H M4 upper with the sling mounts already on them.
I have a Magpul CTR stock.
If i get the 2 point sling from whoever, will these 2 pieces be all that are necessary to attach the sing to my weapon or will additional purchases be required?

From all the comments so far i believe i am going to try and get the 2 point, not sure on the brand yet tho.

Thanks again for the help,
Stephen

As long as your front sling mount is on the side you should be fine, otherwise you could get a GG&G Sling Thing to move the front sling loop to the side, that's what I did.

My Gear Sector GS-2P two point sling is mostly used for my home defense carbine, in my case I use Gear Sector's push button QD sling swivel adapters for my front rail QD sling mount and the QD sling mount of my CTR stock.

For the GS-2P you could get the standard strap mount for your front and rear mount or you could also, if you prefer, get the push button QD sling swivel adapter for your CTR.

I also use two other brands of two point slings, the Blue Force Gear Vickers and Viking Tactics, both are padded models for my other heavy carbine.

I prefer to use the Vickers with my heavy carbine for all around shooting and carbine classes, for my Viking Tactics I prefer to use it when I'm just carrying my carbine outdoors and mostly working my hands, it's easier to tighten it to the body.

I'm very satisfied with my Gear Sector sling, easy to use and remove from the body, modular design so you could just adapt it if you change the way you attach your sling to your weapon later on, they're a very well made slings, you won't get disappointed.
