I bought a LaRue 7" handguard.  Will the Surefire Z70 rail covers work with LaRue?  If so where can I buy them, they seem hard to find?

They fit.

Do you cut them to fit around your equipment also like other rail / ladder covers?

They may be cut.   I prefer the Magpul ladder rail covers, but $$$$.

Check OMB to make sure it is the three pack, but they ship quick.

I thought I read the Magpul are sharp edges and the SF are smooth rubbery feel.

OK, I see OMB now.

they are the best out there.

two slight bumps on them, and ye they do SO much for comfort.

Chapperjoe- just to be clear you are saying the Surefire Z70's are the best?  Magpul was mentioned above so I just want to make sure I get the correct ones.

Magpul switched material for ladders and now they suck.  They are less expenisve now with the crappy material too.

I have tons of magpul ladders, old and new.

they are just rubber to fill the space between rails.

more of a rail protector than hand protector.

nothing wrong with them, they do their job okay.

they don't protect you from heat, but do prevent scratches and what not on hand and rail.

the surefires have these two textured bumps on each ladder step that somehow change the entire feel.

they also do not protect from heat, but they do give a slight edge in comfort.

having said that, I use neither on any portion where my hand could ever be.

I got seared two years ago by a FF HG protected with ladders, when shooting rapid fire without gloves... never forgot it!

I'm a panel guy, magpul of course

My ladders are only used to "mark" where my add-ons go. Panels for the rest.

I have to agree that the SF ladders are nice, but when it comes to hand protection, go with a set of panels or the latest rage...Magpul XTMs.

I did!

The XTM's say 2 piece?  What exactly does that mean?  Two little squares in one set?  How big is one panel in the set (inches)?

If I have a LaRue FUG I guess it would be okay to use the SF ladder covers as I am not handling the handguard, or is that incorrect?

The XTMs come in bags of 8 for one rail. Two pieces slip/snap together to form 25% coverage on one rail. The advantage for my dough is no cutting, heat protection and slim profile compared to other guards.

They're about $6.00-7.00 a bag.

I will try the XTM, where is a good place to buy them?

I'd check the board supporters first. I got mine through Brownell's a while ago.

Enjoy.
