I am a newbie to the world of AR15's and I haven't gone to the range yet. I had foot surgery and have been laid up.
I recently bought an AR15 and being at home I've had some time to trick out my new toy. I bought a VCAS sling and put it on my rifle. I took off the fastex buckle setup in favor of QD sling mounts. I opened the quick adjust all the way and adjusted the other end of the sling to fit me so that when I tightened the QA strap the sling would be tight around my body and the rifle would have no movement.
By adjusting it this way I seem to have about a foot of sling strap hanging from the sling. It works for me this way other than having to cut the peice of strap that is dangling. What am I doing wrong? By the way I am not a big guy. I am 5'9" tall and weigh about 150 pounds.I have read that the VCAS doesn't tighten up like the VTAC. Am I expecting too much? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Slider all the way in with no equipment.  As you add gear, use the slider to compensate.

This is straight from Larry Vicker's mouth to me.

You need to be able to shoulder the rifle with the slider closed. A good rule of thumb is about 1 to 1.5 fist between your chin and the rifle stock. The slider is usually employed when shooting weak side.
