I was looking at purchasing a Specter 3 pt sling setup. I am thinking of purchasing the GG&G Front Sling Thing to mount the sling to, but was wondering what options I have for attaching the sling to my CTR.  Also is the Vickers a better sling than the Specter? The video of Jon from Anvil Arms, using the Specter SOP was very impressive and sold me on it.

I personally do not like 3 point slings.  I appreciate that Jon is a large guy as I am large also, however when I am slinging a rifle I am also wearing a tac vest and a load bearing vest.  A non adjustable 3 point sux for me and even the specter with the release is not the most ideal for me.  Also even when released and in full gear I cannot transition well enough.  In all fairness I can't do it with a standard Vickers 2 point either without having added and additional quick release and a bit more strap.  I find that a 2 point actually transitions into different carries much easier and goes back to the ready easier.

Also the 3 point very much gets in the way of valuable gear space on the front of my load bearing by the way that the strap hangs nearest the weapon.  I like to keep my pistol mags right where that strap runs and it makes it near impossible to get to them quickly.

I also do not like having the strap that runs fore to aft of the weapon.  While not a huge issue it clutters the controls and manipulation of the weapon.  Lefties really need to be more aware of this issue.

I also like to have a sling that separates both the sling from the rifle and another that separates the sling from the user.  If I were going to use a 3 point set up, the specter style sling is the way to go for transitions as standard 3 points need to be removed from the user to get into a support hand firing position.

Of course everyones needs and preferences are different.  Just be sure to train hard with what you find works best for you.

i have a specter 3 point on my shotgun.yes, a shotgun. i think the sling is fine if you like 3 point slings. i quickly realized after i bought mine that id rather have an adjustable 2 point or a single point sling, not just for a shotgun but for an AR as well.the only way to know if something will work for you is to try it.i tried it and realized it didn't work for me, but not because of the quality of the sling, but because of the general design of a a 3 point sling.

I bought one of the Specter 3 point slings to try it out. I ended up reconfiguring it to a two point. With the 3 point, the piece of sling that rides right next to the receiver gets in the way of the safety and the bolt catch, and I just didn't like that. I guess with time I would've gotten used to it--but why? when I know a two-point works? I do like the side-mounted set-up, though, and I continue to use those attachment pieces. The sling and the buckles and the attachment slings are all made out of very good quality material, though, and that's why I kept it all on my weapon, and just reconfigured it.

I have a lot of 3-pt slings on everything from my Remigton 870 to ARs and AKs.  I love them.  I have a couple of the Specter Gear ones, and they are the most comfortable, given their wider straps.  The only bad thing is that if you get the one with all the doo-dads (the SOP sling), it is pretty heavy and flops around from all the heavy buckles unless you keep the sling taut.

I am most impressed with Eagle TAS-1 slings, as they have multiple mounting locations.  One is a little strap the snaps tightly around the front sight base of an AR and has a loop for the sling's HK-style hook.  Another wraps around the handguards and gives you the little loop you need to hook on the HK hook.  You can even use the HK-style "lobster claw" hooks without any of the mounts if you have sling loop (single-point style) mounts on the front and rear.  The only negative I have experienced is the narrow strapping from which it is made - it can cut into your shoulder if you have to carry the weapon for a long time or if it is heavy.
