I am looking for recommendations for a good pair of ear plugs for outdoor shooting. Although I have some Howard Leight low profile earmuffs, they are not comfortable when shooting my AR. I have done a search on this forum and could not find anything. I have used the foam style plugs from several manufacturers, but I am looking for a more permanent solution. I know Surefire makes a set, and there are others out there that look good.

Thanks for the help.

i use the surefires. been using them for maybe 2 years now. comfortable enough for me to shoot my AR both indoors and outdoors no problems. i dont have sensitive ears and after even a full days worth of training and shooting, my ears dont ring at all. i dont know how long they're supposed to last, but a local shop sells them for about 9 bucks a pair.

If you shoot constantly or use a lot of noise making items like lawn mowers you should consider going to an audiologist and having molds made for custom fit plugs formed to your ear.  They will last for years.

Thanks for the responses. USMC, there is a guy at the range I go to that will make you a custom set for about $45. I doubt he is an audiologist, but the plugs look pretty good. I may try something like the Surefire and see how they work out first.

best things ever too I might add.  I had a set but lost them, I used them while kayaking to keep water out of my ears.  I tied them onto my helmet to keep from losing them...but I lost the helmet when I got air lifted off the river after having my bell rung rather hard....
