I like the functionality of the single point slings, but I don't want to have to replace the end plate on my stock (my lower receiver came with a receiver extension already installed, and the nut is perfectly staked). Has anyone here ever ran a single point sling using the QD hole in their stock? I can't find any pictures of single point slings being installed this way so I'm guessing there's a reason why no one does this, it seems everyone runs a looped end plate.

Here's the solution for you:

A clamp-on single point sling adapter, so you don't need to remove the castle nut.

Freakin' AWESOME!!! Thanks dude, that's exactly what I need. I don't have the tools to remove the castle nut, or properly re-stake it. I'd still like to know if anyone utilizes the QD hole in the stock, I wouldn't think it would hurt the stock to have the weight of the rifle hanging from it but I've been wrong before.

Tango Down makes a great QD style clamp mount that goes around your stock tube w/o removing the castle nut. I use one on one of my guns w/ a single point and it works great.

Thanks, I was just looking at the Tango Down mount. I like the two-piece design, I don't even have to remove the stock.

You will not like it attached to the stock.
It will hang very low and transitions will be a pain.

The closest I have seen is a caribiner attached to an LBV on the upper shoulder
then through a loop of paracord on the stock.

I figured there was a reason why no one mounts their slings that way. I'm going with the Tango Down clamp on, it's a nice looking piece that isn't permanent. Thanks for all of your input.

Seriously, if you follow good instructions and pay attention, installing a regular single point mount is a non issue. You dont have to have the armorers tool do remove it or reinstall it, one of those wrenches that looks like an accessory belt off an engine (I dont know what its called, my team leader has one) will work, and I'm sure if you wrapped it in something to protect it you could use channel locks.

Either way once you get a single point installed it is well worth it. Its a little akward to take off/put on but it carries better than two or three point slings.

Installing a DD Burnsed Loop is really simple. Since it's aluminum, staking it when you are done is even simpler. A big center punch does the job neat and simple. If I bothered to hit it with a sharpie you wouldn't even know it.

Removing the old plate is as simple as pushing the staking back with a screwdriver/chisel and a hammer. Then use an armorers wrench to spin it off (don't loose the takedown pin spring and detent.)

If you were anywhere close, I would do it for you in five minutes.

Thanks, but I'm really looking for a non-permanent sling mount. The TangoDown mount affords me the ability to remove the mount with an allen wrench for use on another rifle if needed, rather than having to buy multiple looped mounts and modify each rifle. I would have liked to been able to utilize the QD holes in my CTR stocks but since I can't, this clamp on mount is the next best thing.

Using a purpose made end plate/sling loop is not a permanent mod. Removing the receiver extension & reinstalling is quick & easy. I've found that the clamp on types, i.e., GG&G, will come loose unless you Loctite them. I'd rather have the option of just removing my stock vs. messing with trying to loosen something that's been Locktite'd. However, unless you're unhappy with a particular end plate/sling loop, there's no need to swap them between rifles. Each of my AR's have their own sling attachments. Just food for thought, not trying to change your brain housing group.
