Hey, what is the best 3-point sling (if there is such a thing as a best 3-point sling) out there for an AR15 (16 incher...)? Or which one would you recommend? |
| I've tried Giles, Specter CQB, and Boonie Packer and the best one for me was the Specter CST (Cross Shoulder Transition) sling. The great thing about the CST is that it allows for quick transition to opposite-side shooting via a flip-tab. They're quality made slings. I've since dumped the 3-pts and am currently running a Vickers 2-pt slling. |

The ERB is just a get-out quick feature. It's a good feature to have if you gotta ditch your gun quick. I think you were referring to the TRB (Transition Release Buckle), right? If so, both the SOP and CST have them. I haven't tried the SOP, but it's pretty much the same as the CST. The TRB is an awesome feature. It allows you to quickly transition from strong side to opposite side in just seconds. All you gotta do is flip the tab and push out. I've had a lot of training using the CST and one can get real quick with it. |
Well, from what I've "seen" and read the 3 point seems to be the sling that stabilizes most the rifle when no in use. Footage from soldiers in Iraq show the M4 hung solidly on their chest at the right height to rapidly engage. That's what I'm looking for. I tried a standard sling (2 point like a hunter sling) and it just hangs the rifle on you. I've never tried a single point... If there's a better product that a 3 point that hangs solidly the rifle on us and is user friendly, I'm all ears. |
Check out the Viking padded V-Tac 2-Point slings. We tried 5 different slings for our patrol rifles and decided on the V-Tac. It works great for transitioning from Rifle to handgun and it is fast from trasitioning from strong to weak side. I have the front of mine attached all the way forward and it works great stabilizing the rifle when shooting. |
I just saw a vid on the Vtac, seems great on stabilizing when shooting. So what would be its advantages compared to a 3 point? Does it basically do the same thing as the 3 point but with less material hanging around? |

Three point slings have a tendency to hang up on gear, and interfere with controls. For right handed shooters, you need to go under the inside layer of webbing. Left handed shooters end up with the ejection port blocked. Take a look at some of the quality two point adjustable slings that are available, as they will offer the same advantages of the 3 point, but without the draw backs. Short Vickers article on slings The Vickers two point is one of the battle tested slings that I would seriously consider, and the upcoming Gear Sector GS-2P is another that is showing high marks. |
Well, it helps having guys who know what they're talking about. I had ordered the Specter Gear SOP, but your advices on the V-Tac 2 pointer convinced me to get one. I just ordered a black padded 2 point V-Tac . Can't wait to put it to the test! Thanks guys, you're the best! Pat |
Good Choice. The 2-point slings have all the positives of a 3-point minus the negatives. You will really like it. |

I use a Specter SOP and have had no problems with it. Specter SOP |
