I am looking for a sling for my CAR-15. I am not sure if I want a 2 point or 3 point. I am not a HSLD kind of guy, but would like something that will work in when I am out checking fences on the ranch where there is the possibilty of running into a wandering coyote or rogue puma! Any pros & cons and pics would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Mick

I just received mine in the mail and installed it on my Bushmaster.  It is a great combat sling and it is well made.

For three point, I like Tactical Tailor.

IDF type sling for a 2 point. Simple and proven in the real world.

Exactly what I was going to recommend

Blue Force Gear Vickers VCAS two point sling with heavy duty QR push button swivels

I would recommend the Blue Force Gear Vickers two point sling, it's simpler to use than a 3 point sling and could be adjusted or removed easily, the webbing material and quality are excellent in my opinion.

In my own experience three point slings tend to interfere with the AR's left side controls and I'm not used to being wrapped with the sling, I'm still not used to it even if I started to use it on my HK 94 back in '89.

For heavier carbines I would recommend a sling with a padded strap like the Viking Tactics-LaRue VTAC two point sling or the soon to be released Blue Force Gear Vickers with padding.

In all the 1, 2 and 3 point sling types my favorite is the Blue Force Gear brand.

The VCAS without a doubt.  I have one on all of my long guns (to include duty guns). So that equals 10 that I have in use.

Howdy, I was wondering if anyone has used the DSG 2 Point Sling (IDF Style) by Blue Force - OD Green??

I usually opt for single points for carbines but I'm looking to try a 2 point for my first build.
I'm considering this one because I already bought the H&K hook loops for the weapon and I wanted an OD green sling.

Has anyone had problems using a 2 point while wearing a backpack?

IMHO, the best thing about the IDF sling is it being wide, that way, it spreads the weight of the weapon, and works well even on LMGs.  Narrow slings are better for smaller and ligher guns, also if you have allot of gear on(narrow slings snag less).  I would not buy a narrow IDF sling, I would go with the vickers over a narrow IDF sling.

Thanks for all the advice guys. What I ended up doing, in the typical ARFCOM fashion, was to get both! I bought a couple of 3 point L.T.S. slings from another member here on the board and I also ordered a Vickers 2 point sling.

My plan is to put the 2 point Vickers on my HBAR as that is the heaviest EBR I have. The 3 point L.T.S.'s are going on my CAR-15 and my Norinco .223 BWK-92. I will post pics when I have everything all together.

Thanks again for all the advice....

Where do you get those push button swivels and how does the front one mount to the handguard?  Also what advantage does it give to have the front sling mount towards the back of the handguard as opposed to next to the front sight?

I'm using a Knight's Armament (KAC) QR rail mounted sling mount which is attached to the picatinny rail of my handguard, other brands are also available like MI, Daniel Defense, LaRue, etc, if you don't have a rail there are mounts available that attach to the FSB like GG&G, KAC, etc.

I usually get my heavy duty push button sling swivels (Vltor & KAC) from Bravo Company, Operation Parts but PK Firearms also have them at a better value, make sure you get the "Heavy Duty" type not the standard type.

The mounting of the front sling is a personal preference, I like it at the rear of the handguard so the sling doesn't tangle with my left (support) hand and arm plus when I let my rifle hang, it hangs muzzle down when I'm using my sidearm.

If someone like their rifle to hang horizontally then mounting the front sling towards the front sight would be better.
