I want a single point sling (Gear sector) and a H&K snap hook. What are the opinions of a clamp on style like the Tango Down PR4? I have a LMT with the SOPMOD and the castle nut is staked. Do I want to take the receiver extension off and use a standard end plate or are the clamp on variety just as good. I put a sling plate by YHM on my Bushy already but I don't know if I want to break the staking on the LMT if the clamps are tough enough. Any advise is welcome as well as makes and models. Thanks guys!

eddymunster,

Either type of sling mount will suit your needs.

The clamp on type are quicker and easier to install. They are most commonly sought
after / used by LE/MIL groups on pool weapons. We offer the Midwest Industries unit
for just this purpose. It encapsulates the castle nut and locks down with a single allen
head screw while providing dual rings for use with our H&K stubs.

Single point receiver end plates take longer to install. They provide a psuedo-permanent
sling loop. They are usually less obtrusive and therefore preferred in most cases.

It boils down to personally preference.

I used the Midwest Industries one on my M4 in Iraq with a single point sling.

Quality piece of  gear there.

I have the MI on my carbine and it has worked great for me.  I just kill paper, but I have no problems with it at all.

I didn't want to break the factory castle nut staking on my Colt 6920 lower either, so I went with the MI clamp-on. It works great with the setup you want, single point with HK-style snaps.

The MI family of bolt on sling plates are excellent... I use the one for a QD sling swivel and it allows me to still fully collapse my stock. Pick one to suit your sling style set up and you will be very happy.

I went ahead and broke the staking and scratched the shit out of the castle nut, but I got it off. I went with a YHM adapter. I will use a GEAR SECTOR single point and a H&K snap hook. I don't want to have a piece of webbing hanging off my rifle when I'm not using the sling. I replaced the castle nut and I am good to go. The Bushy nut came off quite easily, The LMT was not too bad other than the big ass scratch. I used some locktite for now and if it fails I will stake the castle nut on. Thanks for the input and,
