| I have a Troy Ind. MRF-M free float rail on my AR. I also have the Tango Down panels, cut by Troy to over lap the clamp area. This leaves a few inches of rail exposed. What size small panel would work at the end of the handguards? I'm thinking the 2 7/8" TD rail cover would work, but I don't want to spend over $10 per panel to find out it doesn't fit or still comes short. I don't really want to cut down a full length panel, because it probably wouldn't look as good as factory. Does anyone have experience with the shorter tango down covers on a middy? Pictures would be really cool. |

+1 Just cut them. If it's smaller than 2 7/8" then you still could cut another section out. I haven't cut anything that short of my TD panels, but I did cut one for the bottom of my middy handguard about 4 1/2" long (cut out two sections out) and installed it forward of my TD VFG. You could also just use Magpul ladder type rail protectors on those short unprotected areas of your rails. I use the ladder protectors in the same rail as my weaponlight because the smallest cut TD panel won't fit. The trick in cutting the TD panels is I use a model (hobby) saw blade or you could use a small hand band saw, but cut it with a little extra material like .020" to .030" extra and just use coarse sandpaper to your desired line, then finish up with very fine sandpaper, it looks almost like the factory panels. Just draw the corner radius line using another TD panel and use a Dremel disk sander to round the two sharp edges, final sand them with fine sandpaper by hand. If you don't want to mess it up, just get some Magpul ladder protectors and cut to size with a blade or knife. |
