I would like to get a Blue Force Gear Vicker's Combat Sling.  I would also like to have it mounted via Uncle Mike's Push Button QD swivals.  My current sling setups allow me to use the Tango Down PR4 adaptors that fit over the castle nut behind the receiver.  But, all the pictures I've been seeing of Vicker's Slings looks like they need to be mounted at the rear of the buttstock to ge the propper use out of it.  Is this true?

Is the Vickers sling less effective if mounted at the receiver plate?  What about the forward mounting position?  Does it need to be mounted at the FSB, or can it be mounted at the rear of the handguards; closer to the receiver?

I currently have 2 AR's with SOPMOD stocks, 1 AR with an VLTOR, and 1 AR with a standard M4 stock.  The VLTOR has the QD built in, but what are my GD alternatives for the other stocks?  Any help is appreciated.

Nothing wrong with mounting a Vickers/ BFG sling off a receiver end plate.  I have one done that way on my 20" rifle.  It doesn't have to be mounted at the FSB, it can be anywhere that YOU feel it is most comfortable.

No problem.  I've just changed my mount point from the bottom stock position to a Daniel Defense loop at the receiver plate.  It seems to work much better for me.

+1

I went with the Vltor receiver end plate with an HK hook on the Vickers and it works great.

False

I avoided mounting my sling all the way to the rear of the stock and used a receiver end plate with a QD hole which I personally find to be a more optimum location.

When you guys are mounting your Vicker's CAS at the receiver end plate, are you attaching the front towards the front or rear of the handguards?  I know it is all about where I am most comfortable, but I would like some impressions of why it might be better to mount it with a smaller or larger loop.  I would think that a smaller loop (ie: mounting it at the rear of the handguards and at the receiver plate) would offer less control of the weapon during transitions and tasks requiring me to shoulder my rifle.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

I tried it in a few different places on the RAS but it was much more comfortable at the muzzle end.  Transitions were quicker and honestly the sling felt restrictive mounted close to the receiver.

I like the front mounted close to the receiver, but behind the VFG.  This way the sling is not getting in the way of my left hand.

The rear on a Burnsed loop works great.  I tried it mounted to the rear of the stock...but going to weakside was a problem.  I'd either have to unhook the sling or always wear it super long.

This way it transitions like a single point sling, just lift the stock over the sling.

YMMV, try it different ways and see what works for you.

ETA:  I've found that mounting further out on either end helps with retention while walking, ect....but at the same time restricts mobility & makes for more sling to get in the way of your hands.
